I'm 5 months out and I'm starting to really lose hair! Help!! I eat as much protein as I can choke down and I just started taking Biotin too. Anymore suggestions?

My hair started falling out at 2 months.  I was scared.  It was coming out in handfuls every day.

So I started taking Biotin, 2000mg per day.  I also get 100grms of protein in with shakes.  Whatever I eat on top of that is gravy.

It took about 3 months, and then the hair quit falling out.  The protein and Biotin combo has made my nails and hair grow fast.  I don't see new hair coming in yet, but I'm sure it will be coming shortly and I will look like a Chia pet.

I honestly don't know if Biotin really helps with this issue.  Or if it's just time and nature taking its course.  I haven't heard anyone say that Biotin stopped the hair from falling out.  I think it boosts the hair follicles so the hair grows back healthier, stronger - and the protein is what hair is made of so that is the critical factor.

Protein and patience.

Mine had stopped falling out, then I had another surgery and it's coming out again.  Have never been really sure if it was WLS or just surgery in general  that makes it happen?

It's the surgery.  When my appendix blew up, and I had surgery, my hair fell out then also.

Something about being knocked out for the surgery kills off the hair follicls.

This has nothing to do with protein and biotin.  Telogen Effluvium occurs a couple of months after a trauma to the body (extreme illness, child birth, surgery, etc), lasts a few months and then stops.

In a nutshell, your hair growth cycle has just rebooted itself.  There are fresh new hairs emerging and pushing out the old hair.  Your best course of action right now is a makeover, a cute layered style that will blend in that new growth so you don't look like a chia pet.  It will be good for your soul, too :).

I understand what Valerie is saying.  However, I have found that the Moroccan Oil Scalp Treatment has made my bald spots grow more volume.  I also use a Chinese Herb shampoo, just on my scalp and it makes a world of difference.

I also take 10000 units of Biotin daily and Horsetail

Wow.  You are taking this really seriously.

1)  What is Horsetail?  I've never heard of it.

2)  What is the name of the Biotin you are taking?  Mine is 500 mg per pill.  Yours must be a much higher mg per pill than mine.

3) Moroccan Oil Scalp Treatment has made my bald spots grow more volume - so your hair is starting to grow back?

Glad you have found some products that are helping with this.  I'm looking for any education you want to pass along on this topic.

This is the leave in conditioner I use (the texture of my hair changed dramatically).  I have cut off about 11' total since my DS 9 months ago.  I have naturally curly curly hair very fine strands (Irish decent).  I use the Moroccan Oil itself and the Drybar Mousse to style with.  I don't have the kind of hair to cut short or to layer it because it would look like a pyramid.  I make the best of it everyday.

Yes, I've taken this whole journey very seriously.  After what I've put up with with this surgery, I'm sure not going to let my looks go down the tubes.  enlightened

Thanks for all the links.  I will check it out.  My hair isn't falling out much any more, but it isn't growing back in yet either.  I'll look into these products.
