Calcium crisis! PTH Intact =142 H-E-L-P!!!!!
Ummmm, please read what you wrote before you tangle yourself up in different stories.
"In our pre-op classes it was drummed into us that Calcium Citrate was the only kind DSer's absorb. I take Cal/Mag/Zinc together. The last time I shut my parathyroids up, and got the reading of 72, I did liquid Cal/Mag. I'm going to get some more of that tomorrow and start chugging it. I do take K1 and K2, but have not gotten the strontium yet."
I'm pretty sure that says you take Cal/Mag/Zinc together, or is my reading comprehension off?

There are no studies to tell us which one is better. We have to (unfortunately) rely on the vets for this info. They will be the first ones with osteopenia- we have to take note and try and make better decisions with the knowledge we acquire.
I take 500 mg od BBC 4 times a day, plus I try and get another 500mg of calc citrate thru chews or lozenges throughout the day.
I dont think too many people would recommend two doses of 1000 mg each. Smaller more frequent doses is what I have seen recommended. That and weight bearing exercises!
I think you need to see an endo asap. Also, research calcitriol. It is a drug that is supposed to stop your body from taking calcium from your bones. My surgeon prescribed it for me, but I am in the process of coordinating it with my PCP.
On another note, some will suggest increasing your D. There are two blood results for D. We commonly talk about the Vitamin D 1,25, and make recommendations to get that number higher. That can lead to a high Vitamin D 25-hydroxy. That is what happened to me pre DS. My point is this- there are a lot of variables and tests that need to be looked at. Its probably not a real simple solution. Get to an endo. Good luck!
My PCP has been very good at listening to me and allowing me to teach her about the DS, in preparation for her taking over my complete care next year...when my 5 year sugeon follow ends. We have had a few kinks along the way, and I think we will be able to overcome this hurdle together as well. She is very forward-thinking when it comes to bariatrics, unlike other doctors here, who are on the "DS is a bad surgery" bandwagon. She even brings her students in to talk to me about the DS, and she has been very willing to work at learning what she needs to know to assume my post-op care when the time comes.
We're on the last leg of that "training" now, and this is one more kink we have to work out. I can say with certainty that she will have no qualms about referring me to an Endo. Of course, the Hemo corrected the last crisis...would that be an option? They share office space.
My D didn't start coming up until I started taking it in the middle of the night away from all food. I take 6 doses of calcium (Sams Club Simply Right) 660 for 2 caplets. When I was taking my D (150k) 3x a day with my other vitamins, it was sliding down. Once I changed to 2-4am, it rose quickly. I started out taking 100k and after 3 mo went back down to 1-50k. I also take my A & E at the same time with a dose of calcuim.

Thank you for posting something that could help me! I hope you don't 'mind if I print this for my Hemo visit tomorrow.
I found an old OH post regarding Forteo, and the Drugs.com info on Calcitriol Injection.
Actually their description sounds more like an infusion than an injection, but I've printed this stuff out and I will talk to my Hemo about it at my appointment tomorrow.
Just out of curiosity...did you ever have anything going on in your back, either between your shoulder blades ore in your lower back, or both, that felt like your spine was slipping out of place? It is quite painful, but only momentarily.
I'm attributing it to the deficiencies. Last time this happened I had a spinal x-ray, and there were no fractures.
Same lab result scenario as I'm having now.
I took injectable Calcitriol by infusion for many months. My hemo provided them to me. It did nothing for my D. I went to an endo, a Vitamin D specialist, and he told me that they were worthless for anyone but kidney patients. It was a huge waste of time for me, and it ruined my veins.
Have you had a DEXA? What are the results of that in regard to your bone density? What is your serum calcium? Have you had any other serum bone marker tests run, such as a bone specific alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin or a unNTX? How about a 24 hour urine clearance test? If so, what are the results?

I'm sorry if my posts are offensive to you, but I have a very serious problem going on, and I came here for help from those who have the same surgery and might be having the same issues, and possibly have some solutions I can try to resolve it, and head off landing in the hospital for more treatment that will do nothing.
I post here a lot, and I try to be helpful, posting anecdotes from my personal experience, and searching the web for links to other possible answers that may help someone with whatever issue they are having.
I tried to answer you with this privately, but you have blocked me, for whatever reason, and that's fine.
There are others here who aren't thrilled with my presence, and have also blocked me, as you have. Sharing information is what this board is all about, because, as you know, the medical community is not DS Friendly. We also share triumphs here and keep each other motivated.
I'm not going away.
Even if I get blocked and/or moderated, the information from someone else having a similar problem is invaluable. That's what support is all about. you find some info, you share it. You need some info, it is shared with you.
