Is protien isolate the onley type DS'rs are soposed to have?  Also right after surgery, I know we can be lactose intolerant, so does that mean we are soposed to make our protien shakes with greek yogert, instead of milk?  I know we are soposed to get protien in, but what is best way, right after surgery?   Thanks

My understanding is that the process used to create whey protein isolate removes the lactose that you find in milk and ice cream. At first, you can mix your shake with water or Lactaid milk.

I'm not sure about the lactose in Greek yogurt. I stayed away from yogurt until I hit goal because I was staying very low carb. I probably could have and should have eaten the Fage 2% plain yogurt like we do now. My DH and I both take it to work every morning. Anyway, 17 ounce 2% Fage plain yogurt, 1/2 cup of small frozen organic blueberries, and 8 packets of Splenda. We split that between us every morning.

There are plenty of milk(y) options if you don't want jus****er. Try alternative milks; almond, cocoanut, etc...

Or Kroger makes carb masters milk which is 3 g carbs, 11 G protein per 8 oz serving

Use water and add heavy whipping cream or even half-n-half to make it taste richer.

Rudimentary research: taken from Wikipedia but good for basic research.

Whey protein typically comes in three major forms: concentrate (WPC), isolate (WPI), and hydrolysate (WPH).

Concentrates have typically a low (but still significant) level of fat and cholesterol but, in general, have higher levels of bioactive compounds, and carbohydrates in the form of lactose -- they are 29%-89% protein by weight.
Isolates are processed to remove the fat, and lactose, but are usually lower in bioactivated compounds as well -- they are 90%+ protein by weight. Like whey protein concentrates, whey protein isolates are mild to slightly milky in taste.
Hydrolysates are whey proteins that are predigested and partially hydrolyzed for the purpose of easier metabolizing, but their cost is generally higher.[8] Highly-hydrolysed whey may be less allergenic than other forms of whey.[10]

From my research, our bodies can actually utilize it all.  Look or call the company to ask for their PDCAAS Score.

If it is a protein blend, our bodies may or may not use it all.  The Egg White Protein is another option.  Always find out the PDCAAS score from the company.  If they are reluctant to give it, then I would question it.

I can attest to the fact, being on Beneprotein (which is a medical grade protein) for 17 days in the hospital, my protein levels dropped.

After being back on Unjury for 5 weeks, my protein levels are back fine.

Wow that says alot!  What would be considered a good PDCAAS score.  I mean what should I be looking for?

The Unjury says on the container 100.

I would go for 90 or above.

Try a small amount of milk and see if you have an issue.  We are about the same time out after surgery, and I am mixing shakes with milk and no issues at all :)

Thanks, Im going to take all of the advise everyone has givin, and do a trial and error with the protien.  Im aucturally still researching for when I come home from surgery.  Its on the fourteenth of May....Im counting down the days at this point and trying to prepare myself....feeling a little overwhelmed......  The fact that I have seen so many people on here that have went through what I am going through, is a comfort knowing its all normal....lol  I still wish I could take a chill pill and wake up and it

it was all over....lol...yes

I've been making mine from 2% Lactaid, NOW Whey Protein Isolate, a tiny pinch of stevia from Trader Joe's, and Scharffen Berger cocoa powder in a blender bottle.
