99% going through with it..... payed the deposit, got the airline tickets, bought the three month regimine of vitamins from Vitalady, Dr. supports the idea, husband supports the idea, family suports the idea, cat supports the idea.....  Now worry has set in AGAIN!  Im not completely broke but Im not rolling in it either.  Is there anyone out there that can tell me how much "estimate" how much these labs are going to be every three months?  Awhile back i saw someone on here that has her blood drawn, and then mails it to a lab.....  Of course I would not like to have to go through that hassle, but Im glad to know that there are other possibilities less expensive.  I have insurance now, but Im not sure they would pay for it...   Cold Feet???

LOL!  I had my labs drawn on monday and she told me that without insurance the tests would have cost over $3,000. And of course my 18 vials of blood.  But I only had a $25 co-pay.  That was through Quest Diagnostics.  I'll probably have a small balance left over after insurance pays their part.  Just make sure that the Dr's office codes it properly.

Dx: 579.9, Unspecified intestinal malabsorption (Malabsorption syndrome, NOS)

Hope this helps.  =)

My insurance has paid for my labs for the last three years. As long an no one uses a bariatric code you are good.

anyone can have malabsorption issues, even normies,so they just cover it.

Omg, really?  I have been last minute stressing about this sooo badly.  When people talked about it being expensive, I thought, a few hundred dollars maybe, and then some last minute checking revealed it could be thousands... Total FREAK OUT!  I really thought, "its all over, I dont think I can do this".  I see your point about the barriatric coding.  Now Im wondering, if my labs come back fine, will they continue paying for them every three months?  They might think he is being exsessive in ordering them...  Thoughts?????

Every 3 months isn't necessary, unless something IS wrong and you're trying to tweak things. I only get the whole, 20-vial thing done once a year. BUT---my doctor does bloodwork for an unrelated issue I have every 3 months, and insurance has never said a word.

they have paid for everything I have gotten drawn every three months for the last 3 years. If someone i s diagnosed with malabsorption, the ins knows their labs will be drawn often. I even was malabsorbing meds before my DS and couldn't get my thyroid regulated. It is now regulated at 225 mcg a day,big dose.

If your insurance covers an annual physical, you can roll them up into that for no copay at all on my old policy.  It was fabulous, since I only get labs annually anymore.

I self paid for my DS outside the US, but have never paid for my labs. I have had 3 different insurance companies since my DS, and all 3 have paid for my labs without question.

I gave the list of labs my surgeon wanted drawn regularly (actually, I tweaked it to look more like Vitaladys list) to my regular PCP, and she has it drawn every February with my regular physical. She told me that labs are something insurance never questions.

Can I ask where you received your DS.  It sounds like it is out of the country and I am considering this option however I am extremely skeptical.  Can you tell me a little about you experience and pre-op and post-op?  I would greatly appreciate it.

THanks
