Has anyone tried this?

Has any one tried the GNC Total lean shake in the Key Lime Flavor? I'm researching drinks for the pre op liquid diet phase and I saw this one on the gnc website. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=17674046

Has anyone tried it? And if so, do you like it?

Thanks,

Maghan

it does have too many carbs and of the 19 carbs, only 9 are fiber which leaves you with 10 gms of carbs per shake. The protein is high but it is the wrong kind of protein for us,it is a blend and we need whey protein isolate.

there is a "carb blend" that has oat bran, celluose gum( cellulose is wood) and maltodextrin which is sugar. maltodextrin is listed again alone which means it is used in a double dose..

This product would totally not fit in my plan. there are way better protein products available than this one.

Thank you for such a thorough reply.

I had no idea about the carb protein thing. Looks like I need to do more nutrition research.

Yeah,it is definitely like getting a degree in nutrition when you have WLS. lol You basically want whey protein isolate to be the first ingredient. you want the least amount of real sugar as close to zero as possible, higher fat is ok for us.  You want carbs (sugar) to be as low as possible. and with everything you eat you always want the protein to be higher than the carbs.  We have limited valuable real estate for food,so we need to the the most bang for our surface area and that means protein first always.

A good product is Syntrax Nectar. Lots of flavors and a natural line if that is important to you. i personally try to stay away from artificial sweeteners and it you are interested in shakes  that use stevia let me know and i will list some of those.

WWW.vitalady.com has a huge array of protein shakes you can buy samples of to check them out. She is a DS'er who has done the work for us and has excellent vitamins also. and No,lol,I don't work for her.

The vvitamin Shoppe has a 100% return/exchange policy if you keep your receipt. They will take back even opened and tried product wwithout a problem. that has been handy to me.

I'm sensitive to soy, and a lot of the shakes I've seen have some form of soy in them. For pre-op liquid diet stage, do I need the meal replacement shakes or just the supplement shakes? This is all a little overwhelming...

I avoid soy also as it can whack up our hormones.

These are all soy free i think:

jay robb www.jayrobb.com might be soy free and the syntrax naturals line is soy free i think.
