Fissures... Anyone with experience??

When I was sleeved, the chronic constipation I lived with caused fissures occasionally.  But it was normally a one time thing and it would heal quickly without any issues.

I developed the fissure again about a month ago and it's just not healing.  I'm in constant pain from it.  I'm not constipated (THANKFULLY).  But it's like pooping glass every time I go.  What could be causing them?  What have yall done if you've had them?  When should I go see a doctor about it?  Do I go to my PCP?

I've tried epson salt baths, hemorrhoid cream, switched to flushable wet wipes, witch hazel soaked cotton balls (gives me the quickest relief)...

I'm just ready for this to heal and go away!!!

I get them once in a while.  I feel your pain.  The last time I got it - it was unbearable.  Every BM made me literally cry out in pain.  I was close to seeking medical attention, but hung on (with Advil).  I just didn't see what a doctor could do for me that I wasn't already doing myself.  I posted here about it and a woman responded with her storey on surgery and it scared the heck out of me.

You are already doing all the things I would suggest.  Googling it said that warm baths were the best way to address it (but I've never done that).  I find the wet wipes with oil and not getting constipated/diarrhea are the key for me.

Witch hazel soaked cotton balls give you relief?  Sounds like a bad one.  I changed my food/vitamins so that I had diarrhea like stools - the other end of the spectrum.  Diarrhea can cause fissures also, but I feel it is easier to heal one with softer stools than to be tearing it again every morning.  I beefed up my immune system to promote healing, got my sleep (the only escape from it), took pain relievers, and I ate a lot of yogurt and took pro-biotics.  I was miserable for a week, but it healed.

Surgery freaks me out too!!!  And I don't know what my PCP could do for me other than tell me I have a fissure and do what I'm doing now.  My stool is already soft, but feels like I'm trying to push a brick out when I have to go...  That's why I'm so baffled by why it hurts so much.  I haven't had a solidly formed turd since before I was switched.

I may need to beef up my probiotic regimen and make a point to eat more yogurt and see if that helps.  I probably need to add another dose of vitamin C too.

Thanks for the input!!!  I'll make some adjustments and see if that helps!

For fissures that are reachable, tucks are good, and I just found out Bag Balm is even better!  Bag Balm is a salve - get the large sized square can - it is helping me when the runs are causing me difficulty.

Good luck!

Me too . Pooping feels like glass chards.  Stools soft, yet pushing it out HURTS, burns like acid coming put.  Upped my Prevacid a nd other stomach meds.  More water, diaper wipes, Prep H  ointment. Hurts to sit after a poop and hard to sleep.  Taking pain meds.  What can a MD do just tell me to use salve, warm sitz baths and oral pain meds.  Feels like an adhesion is pulling apart when I start to poop.
