Orange Soda...To drink or not to drink.
I had the DS January 7th of this year. I had a follow up a few weeks ago and was told that the carbonation in the spda would cause me some pain if I wasn't careful. I wasn't told not to drink it, I was just told it would cause pain. Well, today I went to lunch with my mom and a friend of her's that had the RYN. I ordered a diet coke to sip on slowly and she freaked out. She told me it would cause my stomach to expand and in the end cause me to gain my weight back. I don't drink a lot of it, but I crave orange soda now and then. So far I've lost a total of 69 lbs so I guess I'm not sure what to do. Is carbonation something I should stay away from? Or is drinking it now and then ok?
Drinking a diet soda every now and then is fine. No RNY myths and fictions allowed here.

Tonya, just remember, soda is empty calories and yes, diet soda doesn't have calories but there are studies out there that say that the sweetener in diet soda sets off our "carb" monster into wanting more carbs.
With that said, I drink soda ONCE in awhile...dh (who is also a DS'er) and I usually share one when we are out. But it's not an every day thing.
When I first started back drinking soda after my DS, I discovered fountain soda was easier on my sleeve...that canned/bottled soda was just TOO strong with the carbonation. Now I can manage canned soda but I was well over a year out before that was comfortable.
Keep it as a treat and just remember, she is spouting RNY myths!

I agree. I think the overall message of a DS is that it's a tool. A strong, life-altering tool, but a tool. it's up to us to know what is ultimately good and bad for us and to act accordingly.
CAN you have orange soda? Probably. SHOULD you? No, not often. Not even from a DS perspective, orange soda is just bad for you in general.
I'd have one every once in awhile as a treat, but I wouldn't make it a habit.
I drank diet Pepsi like crazy before surgery. Post surgery it's a rare thing. Bottled or canned soda is very hard for me to drink, the smallest sip immediately makes me full and uncomfortable. Fountain soda goes down better but most times it's not worth the effort for me to go buy that. I wouldn't stress about an occasional diet soda but its probably not a great habit either.
