I am feeling way better today. Slept all night without going to the bathroom again. I take my pain meds at night only now so I can sleep better. I wake up so refreshed. I almost feel normal.

It took me some playing around with protein shakes to find something I could stomach. My son brought me home a few different kinds. I like the muscle milk the most.  I found that I could take 4 ounces of muscle milk mixed with a scoop of nectar and it's 18 grams of protein. I can get four ounces down pretty easy without getting sick of it. So I will do that 4 times today. That will give me the minimum amount of protein suggested for the day. You pre-op peeps... DO not buy a huge bag of protein mix like I did. I use to love chocolate protein shakes. Pre-op I bought a huge bag of Matrix chocolate protein shake mix from my surgeon. It is horrible. Have someone bring you several different kinds of shakes (after surgery) till you find one you can stomach. It will save you money. I wasted 50 bucks on this bag.

Oh yeah, you can mix vanilla greek yogurt with half and half and a scoop of protein powder and water and get a pretty decent protein shake as well.

I am down another 3 pounds. So far I seem to be losing about 2.6 pounds per day on average. So 16 pounds in one week. Not bad. =) I know it will slow and stall at one point. I will not be frustrated because it is just what happens.

I am starting to feel normal again..one week out. Still tired and sore but more normal. I am BORED OUT OF MY MIND FROM BEING HOME ALL DAY!!!! lol.

There are actually 24 gms of protein in a scoop of Nectar so added to what ever is in the muscle milk and it is more protein than you thought.

It is the unflavored nectar so only 10 grams of protein per scoop unfortunately. We recently started putting two scoops in my muscle milk now. The flavored nectars have more protein for some reason which I find weird. I just checked the label.

To add onto this ... your tastes change pre/post-op. What tastes good before doesn't always taste good later.

Also, I highly recommend buying protein at Vitamin Shoppe or GNC as they have great return policies if you find you cannot stomach it.

Vitalady also sells samples. They aren't cheap (around $3/ for 30 grams) but it's worth it to try things out.

I am pre-op and will be having my surgery in about 2 weeks.  What is the "Nectar" you are talking about mixing in with your protein shake?

Thanks for the info!

Nectar is protein powder. I think the brand is Syntrax. I googled it and found a site that sells a sample box. The site is my bariatric pantry. They sell nectar at the vitamin shoppe, but not in sample sizes. I don't have a problem with protein shakes (I drink Isopure shakes after workouts), but I am interested in the variety of the nectar powders.

Hi!  I too found Muscle Milk to be a good option.  Low sugar and no dairy, yay!  Thanks for the suggestions too, I'll try them!
