When is the right time to start taking your vitamins after surgery?  I know we have some stored in our bodies for reserve, but

I also know how important it is to stay on top of vitamin taking.  Ive read on here how some people cant even eat soft foods

at a month out, and I imagine if thats true that maybe they are also having a hard time taking their vitamins.  So how long can we

safely go without taking vitamins after surgery?

I have no information about the "safe" timeline although I have seen other posts that a month is not a concern. For myself I started chewable (multivitamin, C) and sublingual B about 2 days after I got home.

Since it was OK for me to take the pills for blood pressure and uric acid I didn't see the problem. I was specifically told not to take  "big" (centrum) pills until OK'd by my doc, possibly at the week follow up. That appointment is on Friday I will let you know what he says. I'm still on liquids so no issues about not keeping anything down yet.

Do you think those chewable centrum multivitamins would be okay?

Dr Rabkin's instructions were 3 weeks.  I still took my bp meds.  I started with the chewables, but it took me a few months to realize that the SA in the chewables was keeping me gassy, bloated and reacting to the sorbitol.

I started the day after I released from the hospital.  Took me a while to get them all in the first couple days but it got easier.

My "surgery book" said to start taking supplements about three weeks out from surgery, adding them in one at a time at your discretion.  I imagine chewables and things are probably safer sooner than that, but don't quote me. :)

With my program we were to start as soon as possible but start slowly and add more as we could.

It's not a bad idea to start taking them PRE-op!
