Surgery next month, and starting to over think things a little and micro manage.  I have gerd already, and have heard that having

a larger sleeve is better for that, but I have to admit, for regain reasons, I would like to have a little smaller than normal, and

fix my gerd with more medication if need be.  Whats everyone think???  My three week liquid diet starts tomorro.  Im 370 now,

but I know I will drop at least 25 by then, so that makes my start weight around 345, I want to get to 150.  I got a long way to go

and I want the best results.....what makes me special? who doesnt...lol

I wish I could find the research paper about bougie sizes, but it said there's not a lot of difference in long term weight loss between a 32f and a 60f.  A 32f might make you lose weight faster, but you're not necessarily going to lose more and continue to keep it off five years down the road.  Also, every person's anatomy is different.  Your stomach might be longer or shorter than other people's stomachs, so even after the resection, the amount of food that you can hold is going to be different than someone else, even if the doctor used identical bougie sizes.

Edit:  I found this, which references the study, but I did read the study itself at some point and forgot to bookmark it.  There are links in this to NIH studies on bougie sizes included.

Already having GERD, I WOULD NOT ask for a smaller sleeve. There's no evidence that a smaller Sleeve gives you anything but problems. I had my DS 9+ years ago, and my surgeon didn't even use a bougie. My surgical notes say my sleeve was left at 3-5 ounces. It's completely cured my GERD, and I've had ZERO regain.

You might want a shorter common channel. Mine's 75cm and I kinda wi**** were shorter.
