Ive heard this rumor, that if you have done starvation diets in the past that you have a harder time loosing weight.  This is how I always lost my weight.  The only way I ever could.  First week is the hardest then it was really easy for me.  Weight would drop

off.  Loose up to 100 pounds, then the hair would start falling out...BAD, that would go on a couple months, then I would be truely

almost bald, so I would start eating again so it would stop falling out.  Viscous circle to say the least.  Now I will be getting my DS

next month on the 14.  I have alot to loose....Im 370, would like to get down to 150, "husband says 180"....lol gotta love him, is

afraid Ill get to skinny.  Now after researching Im wondering if I will be able to get to goal.  Im thinkin about saving a walking routine for the end, when I cant loose anymore.  I would apreciate any thoughts you might have on  starvation diets and future weight loss

and saving my walking routine for end when no more weight will come off ,and I need something to kick it in the a--.  Oh yeah,

about the hair loss, I know this time, I just have to accept it, and go with it, there will be no turning back this time.  I used to say,

Im either bald and skinny, or fat with hair.  That was my motto for years, there was no inbetween for me....

This round, you will lose without starving yourself.  You will lose some hair around 3 mos post op, and it should stop around 5-6 mos post op.  You will learn how to stay nutritionally healthy - something you didn't do on starvation diets, which caused your previous hair loss - so you will look as good as you feel 100, 200 lbs down the road.

People don't lose their hair from losing 100 lbs.  They lose hair from malnourishment (except that 3 mos post op - which is telogen effluvium)

Yes, its going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out.  Im mean loosing weight in totaly different way then I have

ever known.  Its hard to know what to expect, because everyone on this site has a different story.....Soon I'll have my own story.

Nervous, but very excited...

Did you damage your metabolism?  Probably but so did most of us.  You will still lose with the DS.  Just keep in mind, carbs are the enemy till you hit goal.

One of the reasons the DS has the best statistics for excess weight loss of any bariatric surgery is that it alters your metabolism. You will lose weight and you won't need to live on a starvation diet to do it. Of course you won't be eating much of anything for the first few weeks, but after that, your eating will gradually become more and more normal. And unlike gastric bypass and other surgeries that work mainly through restriction, there is no laundry list of foods that are forbidden forever - just stay low carb, esp during the weight loss phase, and you'll do fine.
