Probably shouldn't have told my parents yet...
I kind of wish I'd have just told them the morning of my surgery or something. I kinda feel like mom and dad will get over it. But my sister is another story. She and I used to be BFFs. And typically support each other no matter what. Guess that's not true any more. :-/

They're going to be scared - they'll never be as prepared as you are. My mom was terrified for me but dared not say anything because of how stubborn I am. She only told me later. You might as well give up on keeping your intentions secret though. Everyone in your mom's circle of friends and family already knows, I bet.

I am glad my mom was not so freaked out at first, because we have a friend that had gone through the surgery a year before me. After my surgery was another story, she keeps comparing me to her. I keep telling her I do what I am suppose to do. I eat all my meals, take all my vitamins and do EVERYTHING I am to do for a healthy lifestyle. I had my surgery Sept 27 2011 at 398 lbs. I am a year and 8 months out and weight 175 lbs I go up and down 5 to 10 lbs during that time of the month. I am very very happy with how my surgery went and how well I am doing now...... I hope your family come around to see this is life changing and that you need all the support you can get. And you have the support of your husband and all of us. I hope it gets easier the closer you get to your surgery date, or if you have a really close friend that will not judge you confide in them too. I hope this helps you in your journey to a better and healthier lifestyle.

My older sister was the only one *****ally gave me any "push back" when I told them and I know it's just because she was so frightened at such a drastic surgery. Plus I think she was a little mad and upset about how this might change our family dynamic - everything we do together as a family has a huge food-related component.
Your family is your family, and hopefully they will get more comfortable with the idea as they have more time to do research and listen to what you have to say. But at the end of the day the decision is yours - and your success after the surgery will be the best argument in favor of your decision.
