Vitamins

I'm still trying to figure out what the future holds for me. How many vitamins do you take a day? Is it hard to keep your blood work normal? Is having or living with the ds better than you thought, harder than you thought, worse than you thought or easier than you thought? Thanks for your patience and for your answers. It's an exciting, but scary process.

10 years post and it's very easy!  Easier than I thought it would be.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  The only thing I would change is my CC.  Mine is 75 and I would insist on 50.

Do you think 25cm shorter would make that much difference? Mine's 75 too and Wi**** were a little shorter too. I am just curious on a vet's opinion.

Some are more metabolically challenged than others.  Some have a degree of regrowth too, usually the younger people.  And our bodies adapt.  Some better than others.

Still much better than the average proximal RNY.  Their malabsorbtion is gone by year 2.  That's why so many gain back all the weight.

I am 4 months out. .

It was life changing, for sure.  But it had to be in order to cure my diabetes and sleep apnea.  Now I take no medication at all.  Not even asperin.  Just vitamins.

DS was my only recourse.  I wish I had done it 20 years earlier.

PS: if I could, I would insist on a CC of 50 also.  I asked for a CC of 100, and my surgeon gave me 75 - but he wanted to do 50.  I should have followed his advice.

My CC is 150, which probably explains why I don't experience the same "weight is just falling off of me" phenomenon.  I really wish I had known I could ask for a shorter CC, although I'm not sure my surgeon would have agreed.  No matter what, the weight loss still wouldn't be fast enough for me, and I'm sure I have greater absorption of nutrients, which can be a plus in the long run.  Either way, it is what it is.  Certainly not going to turn up my nose at 115 pounds in less than 6 months.  Living with the DS has not been very difficult or required an inordinate amount of effort at this point for me.  It has its challenges and frustrations - but the benefits far outweigh any on those.  Last night, for the first time in I can't tell you how long, I was standing outside on the porch waiting for my dog to finish her business - and I was dancing.  My neighbors had to have thought I was crazy if they were looking.  But I was dancing, and it felt woooooooooooooonderful.  I felt like I could move my body again.  And I even thought that I might finally be ready to do some type of land exercise (right now I only do water aerobics).  What a huge score....oh yeah, you were asking about vitamins, and I went off on a tangent.  It IS all about me after all, LOL  I have an appointment to have my 6-month labs done today, so I'll know in a couple weeks how I'm doing and what adjustments I might need to make.  3 month labs for me were all great, but I'm sure I'll have things that need tweaking along the way.  It's a process that we just need to plan for, attend to, and always be aware of.
