New to OH - First Post-Op Eating Out Victory!

I'm 2.5 weeks out from my DS, and had my first eating out victory.  Went to brunch (researched the menu when we made plans), ordered the egg/chicken/tomatilla scramble, ate what I could and took the rest home.  Ate slowly with very little bites and everything went well!

As a former member of the "Clean the Plate" Club, I was amazed that I could (needed) to stop eating when I was full, and how big restaurant portions are!

I've just begun my journey, but I was happy that I could navigate a meal with friends (a big part of my social life).  I was afraid I would never be able to eat out again.

Welcome aboard! You did great. Even at almost 6 years out I always bring home leftovers.

Isn't it a wonderful feeling to be in control of your appetite? Just wait until you're able to easily slip into a booth or weave your way effortlessly through a crowded restaurant. Maybe best yet to be able to order rich, high fat protein meals without feeing guilty. LOL

I know how it feels to worry about going out to eat  -  good for you!  I agree about the size of the restaurant meals.  I usually order from the appetizer list and still need a doggy bag!

You felt like eating out and werr able to have regular food 2 1/2 weeks out? My surgery is coming up and my surgeon said I'd be on liquid and shakes for the first month or so.

Hi Kandrus -

Yes, after 2 weeks, my doc put me on what their program calls "Phase II - Soft Foods."  Phase I was Pureed Foods - so ate a lot of yogurt, peanut butter, scrambled eggs, jello immediately after surgery.  I was so ready for chewing that Taco Bell commercials were looking delicious!  :-P  (I've never eaten Taco Bell - yuck!)

Also, only had to go liquid the day before surgery, however, 10 days before surgery, the program requires a high protein, low carb and calorie diet.  This past week (first week of Phase II) has been challenging.  Not everything agrees with me yet.  We're only suppose to introduce one new food a day.

I guess every program is different, and it is a matter of taking things slowly to make sure certain foods agree with you.

Best of luck with your surgery!
