hernia surgery and I feel like whining

I had an incisional hernia repair on Wednesday.  I was thinking no big deal after having the DS.  I'm in so much more pain.  I miss morphine recovery!  My stomach feels like it's pushing out and is so tight.  It's cut around my belly button.  I've been in pain since.  I just called to ask for some different pain meds.  I was on Vicodin and now they are giving me tylenol with codeine.  That doesn't sound like it will help.  I'm not a fan of pain meds because I often get nausea.  I have to take anti-nausea pills with them.  I also think having a bit of pain lets you know if you are improving or not and also helps you to not over do it if you know you are still recovering.

I just feel like being whiny and feeling sorry for myself.  I don't know how any woman has a c-section and then cares for a newborn.  WOW!  I can't cough and I really need to.  waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

Cheers,

Cathy

  • Tylenol 3 (Tylenol with codeine) is for mild to moderate pain so it is a lighter pain killer than Vicodin which is for moderate to severe pain. Codeine is a natural derivative of morphine and is somewhat less potent than Hydrocodone. So it is a good but mild pain killer. =)

I hope you recover soon. Nothing wrong with venting your pain on here. We all deserve a little poor me time =)

Oh Cathy, I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling bad! I don't have a bit of advice other than to say whine all you want and I'm sorry you had to go through hernia repair. I hope it gets tolerable soon!

I didn't.  I just don't want any elective surgery.  I know it's not a pretty tummy but I don't look any worse than my friends who have had a few kids.  I always thought I would want any and all plastic surgeries once I lost weight but then just being a size 12-14 has been good enough for me.  I'm happy and I don't like to tempt fate or good luck.

Now a bit of a face lift might make me happy though!  :)

Oh my, I had an incisional hernia repair at one month post op...talk about bummer. I also had a c-section in 2008. I can say really keep a pillow with you all the time an use it to brace if you have to cough. It gets better.

Hi sweety! I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I had so much pain with my hernia repair too. While I was in the hospital I was given intravenous Tylenol of all things and I was amazed at how well it worked. I hope they get your pain under control quickly but I promise that it will get better each day (((hugs)))

Definitely keep a pillow handy for both coughing and for getting up and down.  So sorry you're going through this, but you know it will be better soon!
