Numb patches

I have noticed random patches of numb skin—on my thigh, top of my foot, side of my belly, above one side of my groin.  Like if I run my nails across my skin I can feel the weight of the pressure, but I can't feel the scratch on the surface, if that makes any sense.  Am wondering if anyone else had something like this, if it might be a vitamin/nut deficiency or something else.

I have it...mine is due to peripheral neuropathy. And the ONLY relation it has to vitamins are the B vitamins...too LITTLE B12 or too MUCH B6.

Mine was due to diabetes but there are 100 causes of neuropathy with the top three being diabetes, alcoholism and idiopathic (or we don't know WHY in the hell you got it).

Mine affects my feet, legs, and hands...I have some really "dead" patches on my legs, esp in the front.

yep. I got it at my lap sites and c section scar. Most likely will not come back...nerves were cut. Is it specific area of the thigh? Front? did you have an open DS?

No, I had laparoscopic, but these numb patches are nowhere near any incision sites, nor are they areas where I had any trauma/injury.  If it were just isolated to my stomach area, I would probably write it off to surgery (like when they pump you full of CO2 so they can see) but like I said, there's a patch the size of my hand on my right thigh.  I am diabetic, but it was well controlled with meds, and then I've been off all diabetes meds since my VSG as my blood sugar and A1C have been normal.  I'm taking extra B complex and B12 in addition to my multis.  Am going to get my labs later this week.  Am actually hoping it's nutritional and easily corrected and not something more serious.

The patch on your right thigh can still be due to nerve damage, actually a good chance it is coming from your spine. As the years have gone by I've had problems with "dead" patches. They seem to be sometimes in strange places but when the nerve is traced to it's beginning, low and behold most times it comes from a irritation/depression in the spine. A bone spur or lots of other things can do that. So I wouldn't be to worried about it, unless you get pain with it, or it increases over time.

I doubt very much that it is nutritional in the places you are talking about.

I have some numb patches on my legs that are due to pinched nerves in my back.  Had them since I was a teenager.

I had it on the top of my foot.  Too much B6.  Had to cut out the B complex and multi-vit.  It took months to get better.  All gone now, though.  yay!

I have them also and since surgery the pain can be severe for up to an hour. The numbness is exactly as you described but ten I gt severe burning pains like my nerve endings are screaming!!

My roommate in the hospital had something like that—hypersensitive skin where even the hospital gown brushing against the affected areas left him screaming in agony.  The only thing that helped him was some drug I hear about on TV that is prescribed for fibromyalgia.

According to Livestrong.com, vitamin B deficiencies can cause numbness.

I know of a support group member who just didn't get it regarding vitamin supplementation, she wasn't doing *any* even though I'm sure it was part of her pre/post op counseling.  She was always complaining of numbness.  She moved away, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts she's in pretty bad shape right now.  She was a RNY revision, but still, *no* supplementation with *any* bariatric surgery will get you in trouble, but most certainly with our DS...sooner rather than later.
