Net Carbs, Carbs... BLAH BLAH BLAH
I read this while researching Atkins Meals and bars... I have read before that all carbs count.. We absorb ALL carbs. So when I read 5 NET carbs then look at the package and it says 9 carbs.. What do I count? Id say that a bar with 17 grams of protein and 5 net carbs is worth eating but is it all that worth it if its really 9 carbs? I'm confused
This is what the adkins site said as far as carbs goes...
In the case of most foods, Net Carbs are calculated by subtracting the number of grams of fiber from the total grams of carbohydrates. This reflects the fact that fiber doesn't impact blood sugar levels. Moreover, in the case if low-carb products that contain glycerin and other sugar alcohols (also known as polyols), which also have a negligible impact on blood sugar, they too are subtracted from total carbs to yield the Net Carb count. The glycemic (blood sugar) impact of Atkins bars has also been tested on volunteers, meaning that you can rely on the accuracy of the stated Net Carb count
I am diabetic, altho now it's diet/exercise controlled since just after my DS.
I also belong to a fairly large email list of diabetics (over 1000 members)...and almost to a person, we all count ALL carbs as fiber DOES affect blood sugar.
For many of us, net carbs is voodoo math.
So I count all carbs and that was how I had to inject insulin...based on ALL carbs, fiber and sugar alcohols included.

I say I count net carbs. I subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from the totals.
Not sure how much of it really matters since we also malabsorb somewhere around 40% of the complex carbs. Just don't think you'll malabsorb sugar and heavily processed carbs.
