I have a bowling tournament 6 weeks after surgery. Do you think I can do it?
What do you eat everyday? I suppose that's a question for the veterans.

You cannot lift/push/pull anything more than 8 lbs for at least 8 weeks.  Seriously, the movement and weight could pull you a hernia way too easily.

For eating, I pretty much eat normal food.  Yogurt and a protein bar for breakfast, a burger or some kind of protein for lunch, with fries or veggies, meat and veggies for dinner, various snacks in between - lots of cheese with every nibbling it seems.  I get my 100g of protein with real food.

Ditto to Val- no bowling at 6 weeks out.  Way too risky, and honestly, you will still be regaining energy & strength at that point.  The DS and changing your metabolism will make you tire easily at first until you are fully healed and able to take in more calories and protein.

As for what I eat- whatever I want.  And I pretty much am nibbling all day long.  I just choose protein first naturally at this point.  My diet has become much more "whole" and "clean".  I very rarely eat anything prepackaged, because it can cause me GREAT GI distress (after having a freezer pizza and blowing up to about 9 months pregnant, I was done with prepackaged crap).  I am still mindful about carbs, but dont count them, and if I want to lose, I just cut them back and weight starts to come off again.

For breakfast, I have a protein shake coffee, then usually 3 eggs or a pound of bacon or yogurt or cottage cheese with fruit.

Lunch is usually leftovers or Ill make a HUGE meat & cheese sandwich on low carb bread or a sandwich thin.  Or Ill get a double cheese burger or fried chicken or a big salad with lots of protein on it.

Dinner- BIG portion of meat or fish with a small scoop of starch and a few scoops of veggies.  Once a week we get wings & pizza- Ill eat 4 wings and 2 pieces of bacon lovers pizza with extra cheese.

Snacks are usually cheese, I go through a LOT of cheese.  Ill also make popcorn if Im feeling "chippy", or chop up veggies with Ranch, some fruit with peanut butter, handfuls of nuts, trail mix, hard boiled egg, yogurt, protein bars, tuna or chicken or egg salad on a spoon, a piece of peanut butter bread (I use whole grain or low carb), cottage cheese, meat & cheese roll ups, tortilla chips and cheese/salsa or bean dip, etc

I NEVER ate as much as I do as a DSer before I had WLS.  I was one of those skip breakfast & lunch, then eat dinner and snack at night pick here and there eaters before I had my DS.  Now, I eat, a LOT.  I HAVE to to get all my protein in and not feel run down.  It takes me a while to eat a whole pound (a few hours) but I nosh on it all morning.  It is, technically the best breakfast for a DSer- nothing but protein & fat.  Mmmm, yummy.

I'm 9 months (WOW!!) out and still finding out what I can and can't eat.  I still drink 3-4 protein shakes and supplement with meat and cheese.  Sometimes chicken makes me sick, but beef is always good!  I can't eat any bread, nor do I want to.  Just a taste of crackers or chips makes my stomach churn.  blah  Friday night I had a taco salad with just lettuce, taco meat, sour cream, a few tomatoes, and my stomach was terribly upset most of the night.  Salads usually don't bother me.  One night I mixed my protein with milk and that was a bad idea.  lol  Yet yogurt doesn't bother me.  I can tolerate a bite of fruit, but never a whole banana, orange or apple at one time.

I'm going to have to call my doctor in the morning. I have so many people depending on me for the bowling tournament and have already bought plane tickets, entry fees, hotel, etc. Ugh! I don't want to have to put my surgery off longer, but I may have to.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way and get all upset, but if a bowling tournament is more important than getting your DS you should seriously rethink your decision.

The lifestyle changes after the DS are MAJOR and it just isn't the right choice for everyone.

People have flown half way around the world.  People have borrowed and begged to get the money to self-pay.  People have changed jobs to get insurance coverage.  People have fought their insurance companies for years to get approval.

Seeing someone say a bowling tournament is more important than a surgery date is sort of a slap in the face for a lot of people.  Me included.

I consider myself pretty active.....I was back at work after 5 weeks as a nurse....I do alot of heavy lifting. But one thing I can say is that just the walking made me get stomach cramps so bad I had to sit down. Now at 10 weeks out......it has subsided alot but this is my body telling me to sit down and take a load off. Don't pu**** this is your health. I wouldn't do it with a softball...don't do it with a bowling ball, lol. Seriously.....your health.....bowling tournament.....you are more important. this is major surgery. Don't do anything to risk hurting your insides;)
