No matter how many warnings you get, it will NOT prepare you for the pain of revision from RNY to DS surgery! One week has passed and I am still in horrible pain. I had my first BM today which was an explosion of chicken broth and popsicle. Thanks to karry for trying to prepare me, and JZ's wife also. They say it gets better, I'm hoping it's soon. So far it really sucks.

Sorry you're going through such a rough time Lee!  I just had regular DS so I can't compare the pain, but I know you're going to be so happy with the results . . . eventually!

Hang in there!

Hi Tricie, this is Rebecca posting for Lesia (she's dictating and I'm typing). So far no complications, but massive pain. Try your hardest before deciding to revise because it's really, really hard. Maybe in a week I'll say different. But as of right now, still in the remorse phase. When you do make this decision, go with a Dr. Vetted list. It is EXTREMLY important because the complications are many (so far non...hopefully it will stay that way) and the pain, they ain't a few. If you have any question send me a message (Becca will be reading and typing for me).

Hi Donna

I just want you to know that yes it is very painful.  I watched videos, read blogs, and boards and still was not prepared.  I can however, tell you that I am getting better every single day.  I still have a lot of pain at night, but during the day it is far less and far easier to manage.  Oh my surgery is open, will yours be as well?

I hated the vita food that I was being fed through my feeding tube, so my wife made it her mission to go out and find me some that was lighter, and easier for me to digest and tolerate.  That was yesterday and just the change in food has made a million % difference.  I am slowing coming around to feeling human and hopeful again.

I have also found that apple sauce gives my taste buds a gustatory sense of happiness that I never thought possible, it takes away the seriousness of my eating situation at the moment.  In other words it's a nice break from the bland, gross, meals that are strictly meant to nourish your body through the process.

I am happy for you Donna.  I will tell you like people told me, and that is that each journey is individual, this one just happens to be individually difficult because it is quite a complex surgery, but I survived it and thanks to the lord I had no complications thus far.  Just keep praying and getting your head in the proper placement for it.  Oh one tip for you, if you have a spirometer, start using it now, if you don't have one then get yourself a pack of balloons and blow them up.  I blew up balloons daily and it made a huge difference with the painful after surgery coughing and pneumonia.

If you have any questions, just ask I will answer anything you need answers to.

Lee  (ps..I am a woman)

Hello Lee, That's what I've been doing reading blogs, and different things on revision from RNY to DS. My doctor said laposcopic so far. I go to pre-op on the 19 th, and surgery on the 25  th of April. I was having surgery on the 11 th but my doctor said what he was going to do wouldn't of worked for me. What kind of food did your wife find you? I hope you don't mind me asking all of these questions. When you have this done will you lose quiet a bit of weight? I' am getting nervous now! I have a 2 year old daughter. I have another questions are you having your surgery in 2 parts? My doctor said the second one will be 3 months later after everything heals. I will get some balloons, and yes I have  a meter also. I truly thank you for responding back so fast. I pray you feel better real soon. Please keep me inform on whats's going on with you.

I would not want such a serious surgery done Laparoscopic.  Who is your doctor?  What was your doctor going to do that won't work?

My wife found that Glucerna shakes for diabetics, and also a soy Isolate and Soy protein 95 from GNC,  These are easier for me to digest in my feeding tube and I don't feel so heavy and grossed out by them.  She has purchased several more that we will continue to try in the coming days.

About losing a lot of weight, you will not lose as much weight as a virgin DS but you can lose to your goal from what I have heard and what I plan.

My surgery is not in two parts, I got the entire thing done on the 28th.  I don't really know what you are explaining and hope that some vets can jump in and help advise you.  I thought you were getting a true revision from the RNY to the DS and now it doesn't seem like that so I don't know how to advise you but I will continue to answer any questions I can for you.

Well to be honest he haven't told me much about it yet. When I was having a RNY tune up that's how he was going to do the surgery. He told me I need the DS it would work better for me. So I have to get cut on!!!  Well I drink Soy Protein Shakes now there good. I had RNY in Oct. 2007 I started out slow I lost 154 lbs. I had a baby in Feb 2011 and gained 50 lbs back and couldn't get anymore weight off. So I didn't get all of the weight off I was suppose to from the start. My Doctor name is Dr. Jawad. I seen where somebody else ask was it anybody having a revision to DS in 2 parts. I need to go back and write a comment. Well thanks for the info.

Donna it sounds like you need advice from the many vets on here, I am not much of a resource for you at this point.   I don't have the knowledge or energy so soon out of my own revision.  I hope you get the best surgery for you.
