U am almost 5 months out and am losing massive amounts of hair every day. I know some loss is normal but I literally have to clean out my hair brush each morning and evening after brushing my hair. I get 80-100 grams of protein each day minimum and  am taking my vitamins and supplements as directed and biotin but it is still continuing to fall out. I definitely. did not lose this amount with the band and do go through s minimal loss with each change in season (kinda like my dog lol) Any suggestions on remedies?

That's dead hair you're losing. The new hair is coming in behind it should be healthy. Keep your protein, fats, vitamins and fluids up.

Yeap...what I did was cut mine shorter, then went really short. While it doesn't make it thicker, it doesn't look so thin.

Just keep up with the protein and vitamins...and embrace the chance for a new style.

Mine was fine and at 4 months bam... 3 bald (I do mean "BALD" spots).  I keep trimming now at 9 inches in the 8 mo since surgery.  It did not start growing bac****il my BFF gave me the Morroccan Oil Scalp Treatment.  I have some spots that have grown more than other's but it's doing ok.

I know some people say "nothing can be done".  I do not agree with it!  I have used Argan Shampoo/Conditioner also the Chinese Herb Wellness system from Giovanni Shampoo and their leave in conditioner and it helps!  Doesn't stop it but does help it!

Think to be gentle with your hair.  I spend a lot more on hair care products now.  I have learned that Morroccan Oil is my friend as well as the Wellness system.  Natural products without chemicals!

I didn't lose any hair, but many in my support group did, some to the point of transparency.  It came back, though.

As a pre-op, I was told that hair loss is not necessarily a nutrition issue, but can be a reaction to the shock the body has gone through from the surgery.

Even lap, the DS is a big surgery!  I'm guessing that those of us who had open DS would have a greater reaction to the trauma than lap DSer's.

Everybody sheds hair everyday, but trauma certainly steps it up a notch!

The biotin and protein you're eating will only benefit the new growth that is pushing out the old right now.  The condition is called Telogen Effluvium, in a nutshell - your hair growth cycle is rebooting.  It happens 3-4 mos post op, lasts another 3-4 mos, then stops.  Now is the time to get yourself a makeover, and get a haircut with laters to blend in that new growth about to emerge.  Those with long straight locks wind up looking like a chia pet.

Also, don't spend a fortune for any special shampoos - it doesn't stop this condition at all.  It just needs to run its course.

Yep, at 3 months I thought I was going to get away without hair loss and at 4.5 months it started up and has not stopped for the last 3 weeks.  I am just hoping it continues to be all over and not leave bald spots!

I am just going to grin and bear it...

You are not alone!

I lose copious amounts of hair daily. I had long, thick hair and had to cut it shoulder length last week.

My hair loss started 2 months post surgery, and is continuing now, at 4 months. Fortunately, I do not have bald spots, but the thinning is terrible.

Waiting for this to end.
