Recommended daily fat intake for DSers
Hey guys,
It was suggested to me that my dry skin and wrinkles could be related to inadequate fat intake. I thought that I was eating a lot of fat but, I was checking my average fat intake and I found out that I am getting about 150 g of fat per day..
I checked the recommended fat intake for am average woman and found that it is 65 g per day. If I mulitply this by 5 this should give me the requirement for a DSer who is absorbing only 20% of what we eat. Is this right? That would mean I need about 325 g per day?
Does anyone get that much fat in?
Thanks
Challie
I've never counted fat because I figure I can't ever get too much. I add fat wherever I can. If I don't get enough fat my body will tell me (and it isn't fun).
Ways to get fat: Add butter to everything possible. Fry foods. (I have 1/2 package of bacon and 3 fried eggs most days). Full fat Greek Yogurt does more for you than give you the fat. I make SF pudding with heavy cream. I put heavy cream in SF hot chocolate. I eat full fat cheese, cream cheese, sour cream.
I fry cheese. I buy the fattiest meat I can buy (ground beef, steaks). If I splurge on a baked potato I COVER it in butter and sour cream.
That's all I can think of right now.

I had to smile at the potato detail. You should see the looks (or perhaps you've gotten them too), when I ask for 3 times the butter they usually give, and another extra dab of butter on top of my meat....and don't even get me started when I had the starbucks girl make me a frappaccino with heavy cream instead of milk!

You might want to increase slowly and see where your sweet spot is. I use a little cream in all my protein coffee and don't avoid fat but only get in about 150 or so a day.

Mathematically speaking, you are correct, but you may not need that much. I've not counted, but I eat plenty enough for others to comment about it, which makes me laugh all the way to the scale. I never counted fat grams myself, but I do make the effort to get it wherever I can, and boy does it taste good!

The beauty of this surgery is that you can pretty much throw all the calorie and fat gram counting to the four winds. Fat is now your friend. Eat plenty!
I count neither, but i do pay attention to nutritional values. That said, counting may help you as a newbie, but after a while, you get the hang of it, and can just eyeball the Nutrition Facts area on what you buy, to make sure you're getting the nutrition you need.
