Interesting.  I never weighed more than 238 lbs and had the DS.  My BMI was just barely 40 when I had surgery.  My common channel is at 75 and I'm struggling to get past the 50lb mark.

Good luck with this new operation.  Hope every thing goes well and you have a speedy recovery.

Just a word of encouragement...you will get there.

I was 405 at my highest,

397 on surgery day

lost 200 pounds my first year

245 total, settled at 175 but...

I had a bounce-back of seven pounds recently, putting my weight at 182 as I type this.

I have a question for you though...is the vitamin supplementation as rigorous as the DS?

Just curious.

I'm also a lightweight. My BMI when I checked into the surgeon's office was 35.2 and I have a DS...

If he is uncomfortable with the DS, ask him if he will adjust your common channel. Mine is longer than I like at 175 cm BUT I did get to goal. And bathroom issues are normally handled with diet...I'm typically constipated not the opposite.

My first surgeon also thought the DS would be too much but was more than willing to do a RNY on me. I fired him.

My BMI never reached 40.  It is not easy for me to keep the weight off.  If the SADI has less malabsorption than the DS I would be glad I didn't get it.

After further research and help from others, I am planning to insist on the traditional DS.

I looked at some diagrams of this, and ...it makes me a little nervous. I personally would worry about bacterial overgrowth problems, like those associated with the old JIB.

I can see where this would have far less malabsorption, since digestive enzymes from the stomach would be mixed with food all the way down the alimentary limb. About the only thing you'd malabsorb would be fat. I'd ask Dr. Gagner if he could give me some stats on how much fat, protein, and complex carbs are expected to be malabsorbed with this procedure. I certainly don't think you'll be able to eat like someone with a traditional DS.

Some time back there was someone on here that had that surgery done by Dr. Gagner. But he did it without her consent.

I don't remember the reason for doing what he did, but at the time it seemed pretty strange. You may want to ask him about that case.

I do know that he left many people hanging in Florida when he just up and left Southern Florida/Miami without any of his new patient being informed.

As an update, I will be getting the standard DS April 29th instead of the SADI DS. I am pretty terrified especially after reading about someone's very recent VSG to full DS revision, did not sound too nice!! Well it is paid for, so I will suck it up and take whatever comes. Very, very nervous and can't stop worrying about it possibly being worse than my VSG.
