SADI The single loop DS Anyone out there had it??
I have a date for the single loop DS called SADI, April 29th in Montreal. It is like a mini DS, I am a lightweight. I had a VSG a few years ago and have regained 30 pounds. Any SADI people here? For those who don't know what SADI is, here is a link.

It is supposed to be as effective as the regular DS, but is less complicated and shorter surgery duration. If anyone knows more about this surgery such as side effects, please respond!!
Thanks!!
I'm not sure if this is the same as the doc out West did, but i don't recall hearing anything but bad about it. Get some references first. If it was that effective and that easy - it would have gained in popularity by now.

You can adjust the malabsorption with longer limb lengths. Just because he is vetted, I would still want more info on why not to stick with the tried and true procedure. Wish they would share new info more opening. Dr Gagner has had a good reputation, but he has also moved around tons and has tried a few procedures in the past that did not work as well the DS.
I would still want more informaiton.

I would certainly want more information on this before proceeding. I heard but have not seen where Dr Gagner and others were working on a newer just as effective type of DS, but I have not seen any details in regards to results. I get skeptical when they start trying to change something that works already. I tried that article in your first post and nothing would come up, can you copy and past that info ?

Single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) is a new operation for morbid obesity based on the biliopancreatic diversion in which a sleeve gastrectomy is followed by an end-to-side duodeno-ileal diversion. The preservation of the pylorus makes possible the reconstruction in one loop, which reduces operating time and needs no mesentery opening. We review the results obtained on the first 50 operated patients with 1 to 3 years follow-up. Eighteen men and 32 women with a mean BMI of 44 kg/m(2) were operated on. Hypertension was present in 50%, sleep apnea in 30%, hypertriglyceridemia in 60% and hypercholesterolemia in 43%.There were 27 type two diabetics, most of them on insulin therapy. There were two gastric staple-line leaks and one long-term subphrenic abscess. Follow-up is complete for 98% of the patients. Excess weight loss reached 94.7% at 1 year, and it was maintained over the second and third year. At 1 year, mild anemia has been detected in 10% of the cases. Albumin concentration was under normal levels in 8% of the patients in the first postoperative year, but all patients recovered to normal levels by the third postoperative year. All diabetic patients have normalized glucose or HbA1c levels after the sixth postoperative month with no need of anti-diabetic therapy. SADI-S is a promising operation which offers excellent weight loss and metabolic results. The elimination of one anastomosis reduces operative time and decreases the possibility of surgically related complications.
While I don't know much of this to be comfortable with it, I do know of Dr. Gagner. What's to happen if he flees Canada and you cannot get another doc to understand your insides? There are docs who won't touch a patient who had a common surgery from another surgeon, let alone something unknown. The DS has been around since the 80s and it took a good 20+ years before it was embraced, and still today, many docs don't quite understand the needs of the average DS patient.

He thought the DS would be too much for me, as a lightweight, I was never more than 246 pounds. Maybe the traditional DS would be better if I was heavier. I did discuss the effectiveness of the SADI and am satisfied that it will be enough. He assured me. I hope there is someone here that has had it, or at least knows someone well who had it. My biggest concern is side effects like bathroom issues.
