High Bone Density and Weight Loss
A normal BMI for me is 150 pounds, however...Dr. K indicated to me that as people age and (speaking to only women here :p) are pre-menopausal, or in menopause, that their bone density may be higher resulting in a larger BMI albeit healthy.
I've been thinking about that statement since Friday...and it actually makes sense to me. I look a lot smaller than I am, I wear a size 12-14 even though I'm at 198 pounds. Dr. K indicated that I should expect to drop down to 170-175 and not the BMI number of 150.
It was a very interesting conversation. What has been your experience with high bone density?

I've heard something similar but it didn't work that way for me. I was already osteopenic as a pre-op. Now, I have osteoporosis and working to get my bone density back in the osteopenia range. : (

This makes total sense to me. In my 2nd year, at my lowest rate, I was teetering from 140-145. I would go to the "fool the guesser" stand at Kings Island, and they would always be around 15lbs off from what I weighed. I always got a prize.

I weight a lot more than my clothes size would indicate. I never wore this colothes size before, but at this weight I remember wearing about 4 sizes larger in clothes.
I went by weight to track my progress for the most part. But now I never use the scale. If my clohtes fit I am good. If my clothes start getting too tight it is time to get the carbs out of the diet until my clothes fit again.
No more cheating by wearing loose clothes and letting even more lbs pack on. I wear my jeans and if I can't wear them I get really serious about what I am eating.
I ate a lot of candy this week. I am stopping that NOW and getting back to basics. I am going to the grocery store today to get ingredients for another Brok pizza, for a huge egg casserole, and yogurt, eggs, bacon, etc...
Candy be damned. I don't need you.

It was challenging for me to visit OH because I would read of the amazing weight loss people were experiencing getting them down to their BMI numbers and I wasn't moving in that same direction.
Beginning yesterday, I changed my diet and incorporated more fats which DID result in more BMs; so interesting...I think the toughest challenge will be to get out of my lowfat and veggies mindset. This morning I had to search for regular greek yogurt at the store. Found out its called "Traditional"...but it was near the end of the yogurt selection...the first selections were non-fat and low-fat.
This morning I made a breakfast casserole loaded with bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, and cheese....and butter.
Thank you for your responses. Enjoy your day!
Full-fat Greek yogurt has been very tough for me to find. One brand that I get at Kroger with full fat is Mountain High.
It comes in quarts, plain or Vanilla. I use extracts, fruits and vegetables to flavor my own yogurt, so those choices are cool for me.
You may want to try Chobani, which comes in different flavors in the 6 or 8 oz individual cups.
