Carb Overdose (Those darn potatoes!)

I was clean for three months, but this weekend it happened . . . the evil empty carbs took over my soul!!  Pasta, chocolate and potatoes every day for the last four days.  How easy it is to fall back into bad habits, and how bad those carb cravings are once you start again! Ugh!!!!

One (very small) bright spot to a Monday after carb binging - I am NOT constipated today. ( I finally understand why Val eats a Krispy Kreem donut to break bowel blocks!)

Back to protein only today, but it's going to be hard.  Potato chips (my ultimate comfort food) and candy bars are calling to me.

Hang in there. This is just one of those white knuckle decarbing days. You can do it.

Yes, potato chips...

I bought a bag of these at the store yesterday.  And to add to that crime, it was a BOGO sale, so the second bag was free.

Then it dawned on me why I was craving them.  Salt.  So I went to the store and bought some jerky.  Now, I have a piece of jerky for a snack first - then a handful of chips second.  Usually the salt from the jerky satisfies the salt craving.

Hang tough on the carb monster.  2 weeks without him and you won't want him any more.  I love that about low carbing.

Jack Links peppered beef jerky!  I forgot I had some.  I'll use that today as I go through withdrawal.  Thanks!!

The carb monster is so horrible. I need to take my own advice! Have lots and lots of healthy substitutes to choose from. One of my favs is to make cheese crisps by microwaving a thin sheet of grated cheese on a paper plate. Around 40 to 50 seconds depending the the over, the cheese, etc. It should turn bubbly, and slightly change color and be very crisp like a chip when cooled. I ate these on and off for days trying to break the carb cycle.

I have not gone for chips (except the protein ones) but I made a baked potato, cut it in half and scooped out the insides and crisped  the skin in the oven then filled it with some butter and sour cream.  It was heavenly - and fairly low carb since almost all  the potato is gone!

I have made a couple of pasta dishes for my husband and had a bite or 2 along with my protein.  It is bread that I really miss - I have indulged in a bite or two when I come across really good stuff, but not gone beyond that.

I certainly understand the cravings and try to get creative to distract myself!
