Powder Vitamins?

There is a powder form created by a bariatric doctor. DSers take three scoops a day...morning, noon and night. It covers all your vitamin needs for the day. It tastes like pixie sticks. mix it in any drink or shake. Tastes like candy. I know two people who use it and are hooked.

I just came across these vits today as I continue my research and soul searching on the DS procedure. I'm curious as to what the DS Veterans think....can we really pass on 14+ vits a day in exchange for 3 scoops?

ACTUALLY....each scoop is only equivalent to 3 tablets.  So you would need 2 scoops to equal the above nutrition label.  And this formula is vastly inadequate for OUR needs!  So, let's break it down:

D3--you would need to take 20 scoops per day to get 60,000 units, which would be probably the minimum any DSer should be taking of D3.

Vitamin A--well, I would need to take 14 scoops per day to get close to the 75,000 units I take per day.

Vitamin K--laughable (I take 10,000 mcg per day to stay in the low normal level)

Vitamin E--you would need to take 8 scoops per day to get the 800 units per day recommended by Vitalady.

Hmmmm......so one tub would last me 3 days.....no thank you.  Don't really want to spend close to $300 per month for vites.  I'll stick with my $50 per month, thank you very much.

All these 'all in one' vites are useless for DSer's.  Seriously, don't waste your time or money.  You'll end up in a world of hurt in no time.

It's probably a good start. Jus****ch and track your labs. If this isn't cutting it for individual items be prepared to add additional supplements as you go along.

My surgeon did his DS training with Dr Boyce and his office is going to start selling these vits in his office.  Paperwork pending. He recommends than as well as watching your labs and tweaking as needed.

It wouldn't be a one-stop for me either.  I would at the very least have to take extra D.  The calcium and iron will probably cancel each other out, so you'd have to add those seperately too.  It's a decent start, though.

Could they possibly be different because they absorb differently being a powder? I am just curious. I am being told this by second hand....

I am really interested in these if they work. I see what you are saying there for the 3 tablets. I missed the 30 servings per container. Surely not everyone has the same vitamin regimen and I am sure everyone absorbs differently depending on their common channel? I am going to ask my surgeon about them and see what he says. At the very least I might be able to replace one or two doses of the daily vits with a delicious drink...

anything that is in capsule form would the same as that powder. Pills-all they are......pressed powder, so again the same.

And you are right not every one has the exact same vitamin regimen, and every one does absorb a bit differently then the next person.

But you have to remember that you absorb not only in the common channel, you absorb in different sections of your small intestine (depending what the vitamin is), but only in the sections of the limb that comes down from your stomach.

Some need lots of something and a lot less of something else, so to take it all combined like the powder would not be very effective for someone like me.

I have to take at a minimum 15,000mcg or 15mg of Vitamin K1 to be in the low normal of K1. You can add naturally but then your cost goes up and up with each addition.

To me after trying different things over the years, I've learned, the best and the cheapest way to stay healthy I need to take my vitamins seperately.

I feel it's just another gimmick.

I did the math on that - 3 scoops a day, and there is only 30 scoops in the bucket - a week and 1/2 worth of supplements, plus having to supplement it with more pills.  At $28 plus shipping... it just seems expensive to me.

I would try it to see if I absorbed the nutrients better if it was cheaper.  It would be a great beginning step for a new DSer though.  I did not take any vitamins the first month.
