Update after being in the hospital for 17 days

I really don't know that the DS is what is the problem here.  I felt just like you describe when I had a diverticulitis infection/perforation/resection 2-1./2 years before my DS. The resection is hard to recover from but then you will be finished with the diverticulitis unless it forms again later (and that usually takes many years).   I wish you health and clarity as you make this very hard decision.

Because of lack of nutrition/malabsorbtion, my immune system is compromised.  By not being able to absorb nutrients from food.  I totally understand after they pulled labs twice a day watching levels.  I didn't go into all the specific details.  It's a very tough decision.  I would love to find someone to speak to that had a reversal.  I want to know all the pros and cons. I'm very frustrated and scared all at the same time!

Before making this decision, please consult with your original DS surgeon (or have local docs consult with him).  I've heard only of a couple of people having reversals over the years, and they came back with some serious complications as a result.

Val,

I already have...  He doesn't have any answers...

Is there anyone who you could ask if they would speak to me?  I really would appreciate it. I just want to know what I'm looking at.

Thanks...

Those people aren't out here anymore, I'm afraid  (and that also unnerves me)

Have you looked into digestive enzymes to increase the level of absorption?  The majority of people who start to consider a revision find good results with this option.

I'm sorry you are having such a tough time of it, and hope that things will improve soon for you.

I realize that your post is merely a highly abridged version of events, and there are surely tons of facts that I can't possibly know, and it's also clear that you are not making any decisions lightly...but I still hope you will consider a cc lengthening. Each of us is different, and it sounds like, for whatever reason, 75-80 cm just isn't working right for YOU, and only you matter at this point. But that doesn't mean that a longer cc might not work for you.

Whatever you decide, I will wish for a safe and successful return to health for you.

Larra,

You are so right... This is the super abridged version!

Our bodies are all so different.  I still stand on my belief that this surgery and the VSG should be the only one's allowed by law.  :-)  The band & the RNY should be ancient history!!!   However, my body has not reacted well.

I'm worried that lengthening the CC may not be enough for me.  I don't want to go through more surgeries than I have to.  I have avoided the Colon Resection surgery on purpose.  Quite frankly, I was in shock that it had come back!  I know behind these - I will have plastics.  How many more surgeries can my body handle?   Getting this covered, will be possible with my insurance, getting another one covered will be much harder.  Then my plan was to move back west and go back to school in the fall.  That is all on the back burner now.  I'm tied to my "GREAT" (sincerely meant).  So, this past month, my life changed in an instant.

I am so sorry you are going through this. Have you thought of speaking to Dr. Keshishian? I do think he is an innovator and he may have seen this before have an idea or opinion.  He does phone consultations...it couldn't hurt.

Regardless I will keep you in they thoughts and prayers.

Best

Praying that you find your answers and that someone can help you. Any of us could have ended up with your problem. I hope before too long, you are posting about how great you feel.
