Does insurance normally cover labs post op after they pay for your surgery?

Insurance will generally cover one full panel per year without question. If you need/want them more often you may have to pay depending on your insurance.

Also, some tests are more specialized and may not be covered but again, it depends on your insurance.

I've been lucky, I guess. My surgeon's office has always written the script and I've been able to get them every 6 months or sooner on some particularly stubborn issues.

I haven't had any issues with my insurance covering post op labs.  Now, this last they gave me the contracted rate and the rest was applied to my deductible since I am at the beginning of the year.  But they were covered, I just needed to meet my deductible.

I combine them with my annual physical and don't even have to pay a copay

My PCP rocks and orders these labs for me every 3 months :) my insurance (FEPBCBS/Federal BCBS) covered all of it!

Has anyone had trouble with insurance covering labs if your sugery was done in Mexico?

My surgery was done outside of the US, and I have no issues getting my annual labs done here. My pcp has them run, and I've never had a problem with insurance paying for them (even though they didn't pay for my WLS).

I get one full set easily covered each year...and I can have a few done every three months but those are limited to managing medical issues like my diabetes and thyroid (I consider myself in remission from diabetes not cured at this point in time).

But read your policy...it may exclude ANYTHING to do with WLS if your employer has the contract written that way.
