lab results

This is the convention for posting lab results:

Hemoglobin -your result- (lab range)

So:
Hgb: 11.5 (12-16)

And you put them whether the result is high, low, or normal.

Even better would be if you begin an excel or google spreadsheet, upload it to the internet, and share the link with the forum.  Keep all lab results in one file so you can see changes.  That is the best way to do it.

Thanks Kayla, this is very helpful I wil lpost my next labs that way.  Not sure how to share a link but my son can help me do that.  I am sure I will have more labs once I see my specialist.

Hi Kayla.  Do you mean the ranges from the lab report?  ie. Vitamin D is 39 the range is 75-250  My Ferritin is 16 with the range being 10-291 .B12 is 235 suggested range being 198-615.  If I understand correctly I should be aiming for the top of these ranges, right?  When I first had my DS I had a great doctor who followed everything thoroughly and I was having good lab results but I never actually saw the results myself.  That's why reading them is new to me. Unfortunately my doctor left practice soon after and I havent had a doctor until recently.. My new doctor has lumped my DS in with all other bariatric surgury so I have to rely on other sources for help.

I do appreciate your support.

Thanks

Sue, you said:

My surgeon thought my D was great at 45 (normal is 35 to 100) . Surgeons and the nuts that work for them do not understand the levels we actually NEED. If it's not labeled low or high, it's fine.

That's why actually getting a copy each time is critical in your process. Now, I will be honest, I do NOT know how the Canadian system works in that regard but here in the US, you have a legal right to a copy of your medical information like labs.

Now, trends in your labs will be as critical as the actual number...you can be fine in one item but if trending down each time, it also needs addressing.

And yes, we typically aim for the middle to top of each range. (most of them anyway, LOL) As far as a few, like glucose and A1C, I personally am aiming for the BOTTOM of the range.

As far as the "lack of support", this doesn't just affect you but all the people reading this who are new or not following their own health. Each of us has a responsibility for those coming behind us to keep this surgery as an option for everyone. Not everyone is sunshine and rainbows...I had my fair share of them as well...but I hung in there like you seem to be doing...

Oh, and we are also on a limited income...as both my husband and I are on Social Security and Medicare. We just have to budget for what is important. WANTS come far down the list IF at all.
