There are probably legal/liability reasons one surgeon can't/won't tell you things about another, good or bad.

DS on 05/14/13

I'll be having mine done next month with Dr. Roberto Aceves in Mexicalli, mexico. His reputation is impecable.  I have been researching daily since Sept 2012.  He studied under Dr. Ungson for the DS surgery.  He was also the head of bariatics from 2009 to 2011.  He was on the cover of Newsweek magazine May of 2012 for bariatrics.  You stay in the privately owned Almater hospital.  It is very modern and beautiful . Cost is 13000. You also stay six days.  They say if you are well enough, and if you want to they will release you to a beautiful resort hotel for the last two days, but onley if you want to, the Dr. then comes to the hotel to check on you.  I have decided to play it by ear and see how I feel before I make that descion.  Im a worry wort so I have even thought about staying a little longer just to make sure everything is alright before returning to WA. state.  I forgot what the hotels name is, but I went to the web site and it is very nice.  If you go to utube there is a few people on there that made vidios, and one person shows the hotel.  If you go to his website you will see all of his credentials, to many to list here. He used to have Dr. Ungson there when he was doing the DS surgery, but doesnt anymore.  Nina his cordinator says if you want Dr.Ungson there with him it cost an extra three thousand dollars.  I wont be having him there.  Ive done my research, and am very confidant with Dr. Aceves.  Ive talked to a few of his patients also.  In fact one just a couple of days ago.  She is doing well, and her husband just had his DS with Dr. Aceves in January.

Uuuugh.... I still don't know what to do. After I had pretty much decided on Ungson, Dr Rodrigez did call me to talk about the DS. The reason he doesn't offer it as a surgery for him is because he has patients complain about the effects afterwards. He says 3-4 patients out of ten will complain about either diarrhea, kidney stones, or dehydration years after their DS, so he stopped offering it. He prefers a distal gastric bypass to the DS. He has done about 150 DS, and trained on the DS with a surgeon in NY.... He told me who, but I now forget his name. He has not had any deaths from his DS patients, but has had to go back in to lengthen common channels for some. I requested he make mine 100cm, and he said he could do that for me.

Do you guys think he's legit? What about all those "complaints" people have? Doesn't that have a lot to do with how they are managing their own DS? Seems like the majority of successful DSers are VERY proactive about their own health.

My husband just had ds surgery on march 14 in Tijuana with dr Kelly . He is an awesome surgeon. However having the procedure out of the country was somewhat freaky...they just beat to a different drum...my husband has had no complications and doing great. The travel day home to St. Louis was aweful, sooo long of a day...we had no choice finacially but to go where we could afford the surgery our insurance would not pay. My husband is a lawyer and did tons and tons of research before he choose the surgeon and the procedure he decided on. But just a friendly FYI.....be prepared that Mexico is sooo layed back compared to USA and you will definitely notice that in their healthcare program....not inadequate...just so different...btw....he is 30 pds lighter!
