Miss Callie - My new avatar

Everyone admire and welcome my sweet and spoiled rotten, 8-yr old beagle, Callie. I chose her to be my new avatar. Vivian, thanks for helping me change my avatar via the shrink site. That helped.

Hoping everyone has had a good week so far.

My surgery, if it still stands as scheduled, is only two weeks from tomorrow. I'm pretty sure I've decided to go with VSG instead of DS. Just feeling more at peace about this decision versus rerouting intestines, potential OVER  malabsorption and the problems that brings - infusions, injections, TPN (?) - IV and port infusions of vitamins or proteins, as well as the aftercare expenses associated with DS. I understand that IF everything goes just right, I "shouldn't" have those problems and that "if" everything is just right that my vitamins shouldn't be too expensive, but the labs and protein will not be covered by my insurance and that will be more expense than I'd like to spend if I don't have to. Plus, since I am self pay, I just feel better about spending less than half the cost that a DS would cost. We "could" cover the DS expense, but I feel better about spending less.

I can always go back and add last part of DS if the VSG doesn't work for me, but I think, I trust, it will. I've had several things happen and situations arise over the last couple of weeks that I've seen as road blocks and God's voice telling me to  think twice about having the DS. So, unless I totally change my mind about VSG when I see Dr. Stewart this coming Friday, I think the VSG is my choice.

As always, I thank each of you that have helped me and supported me in this decision. And, it goes without saying that I'd appreciate any and all prayers for wisdom, peace of mind, and a successful WLS.

Wishing you all the best. Only you know your cir****tances and how you can manage post-op. If money is already tight, I understand totally. Good luck.

Only you and your doctor can decide what is best for you. Good luck with surgery and recovery!

Mmom and Doc - you're both so right. I've not wanted anyone else to make the decision for me, but it sure has helped getting everyone's input and hearing their experiences. Money was not the main reason I chose VSG over DS, but was one of course. It was way down on the list. You just NEVER know how your body is going to respond to the malabsorption and messing with the intestines. Every Preston's response is different. I'm just not willing to take those extra risks right off the bat. I know DS works wonderfully for most people and is an awesome surgery. Wishing you two continued success and much happiness.
