Out of State Surgeons
I live in Florida and won't settle for anything less than the DS, but that means looking out of state. As such, I know there's some amount of travel required prior to any surgery, but I'm just wondering if there are any particular DS surgeons who make the long-distance process any more streamlined or easier. How many times can I expect to travel to their site? How are things accomplished without routines face-to-face appointments. I'm looking for the best surgeon first, but also one who has plenty of experience dealing with out of state patients. Thanks.
You might take a look at Dr Stewart in Tex or Dr Smith in GA. Contact info for them should be on the surgeons list on www.dsfacts.com. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi,
I live in Maine and had my surgery in MI with Dr Kemmeter. I left on Dec 1, had surgery on Dec 6th and came home on the 13th. I have no plans on going back to see him. I have my lab papers and they go to his office they call when there is a problem or I can call them anytime. I have a Dr here that works with his office if need be.
Best of luck,
Trish

These surgeons know that they are few and far between, so they are perfectly willing to help coordinate your after care with your PCP at home. You will likely be required to stay local to your surgeon for around 2 weeks, for if any complications should occur, they usually do in that time frame. From there, you just get bloodwork done, which can be coordinated by your PCP, and have them share the results with your surgeon. Some people see their surgeon annually, but I stopped when my visit included a hug - howya doin? - you look great - now get your bloodwork. I didn't see the point.
