Now I remember why I stopped taking my vits!!!

UGH!!

I ran out of a few of my vits, and quite frankly, got lazy and quit taking them all together.  It's been months and months (do not try this at home!!!)

Well, I decided that I would start taking them again today, and OMG.  I'm in so much stomach pain I can't even describe it. wait, yea I can... know how it feels when you eat white bread and you get gas?!  THAT's the pain i'm in.

NOW I remember the real reason I quit taking the darn things.  I was getting tired of having an upset stomach all the time.

I'm pretty confident that it's the taking of them all at once.  Too much for my system.... and has always been.  But the idea of taking something every hour is exhausting.

I'm just complaining today.... forgive me.  I just feel horrible.

Sorry, but it really is more healthy to take them every few hours rather than all at once or even twice. Some things interfere with other things and all that. Also, try not taking your zinc and see if that one item might be the issue, if you're taking zinc that is.  But, don't stop taking them, you need them to live. Otherwise, you die a slow and painful death.

All I can say is do some research about what happens to DSers who don't takes vitamins.  Then you can make an informed decision about taking or not taking vitamins.

I personally got the DS to become healthy.  I wouldn't even think of putting my body through all the problems that not taking vitamins and protein would cause.  It would have been more healthy for me to have just stayed obese.

There is probably only ONE vitamin that is giving you gas.  Easy enough to figure that out and then you can change brands or types of that one.  I don't see this as a difficult problem honestly.

Like I said... I'm just complaining today.  I just feel like dookie.

And I don't have gas.... I'm throwing up and got the "Big D".

I know what to do, how to do it, and why.  Been living this for almost 4 years now.  I guess I'm just in "poor me" mode today.

Sounds like you've been in "poor me mode" for "months and months."  Everybody has a bad day or even week when they just can't get all their vites and protein.  But "months and months"?  Slow suicide.  You signed up for this.  Way past time to get your act together.  So sorry, no sympathy from me.  Perhaps a therapist could help you figure out why you are not taking proper care of yourself AS IS REQUIRED when someone has the DS.

And you are not only hurting yourself.  When patients are not compliant their docs and surgeons blame the DS making it harder and harder for people who WOULD be compliant to even have ACCESS to the DS.  Not appreciated by folks who are fighting to get the DS to save their lives.

Ok lady, I don't know who you are, nor do I care.  I don't need a "scolding" from you.

I'm having a bad day, that is all, I don't appreciate the attitude, and you would be doing well to hold your tone with me.  I've been around here for many many years, and don't need my hand slapped by the likes of you.  So do me a favor, back off, and shut up.

If you can't support and/or give advise, then keep it to your self.

LOL You came here with this message about abusing yourself by not following your surgeons advice regarding vitamins and supplements. What did you expect???--- Everyone to  say "Oh that's OK, you don't need to take your medicine". ???

As far as I am concerned Becky is giving you great support in the form of tough love.

Well I am disappointed you blocked Becky. I wanted to see what she said. Anyway I did not take my pills for years when I was post RNY. Luckily I had no ill effects. Now that I have had a revision to DS I know that is not an option. In fact I have been unable to start vitamin supplementation (3 months post-op) and am quite concerned it is going to pose a problem.

Best,

Whit

I have to say that I find this actually quite funny now that I'm feeling better. Grown people trying to tear down someone that's already down.

For the record, I did not block anyone.

I think it's important to newbies to know, that yes, even vets have the days (in my case months) of non-compliance, and that we need to recognize that what we are doing is destructive to bodies and our health.

However, I don't feel the need to get slapped in the face (so to speak) or given "tough love" by someone that knows nothing about me and my situation.

I don't worry about my vits, because my labs are good, all I really need (as of last April) was a multi.  And I didn't really "need" it.  So see, when someone jumps in and opens their pie hole without knowing the entire story, it  makes them look like a dumb butt, and they block themselves.

I see that the "holy than thou" attitude around here hasn't changed much since I started in 1999.  People that's had a surgery for many years, start getting annoyed with newbies, and/or people that they know KNOW better!  Give it a rest and recognize we all have our bad days...weeks...months.  And someone that's already "down" doesn't need to get kicked anymore.

Major Mom... THANK YOU for being supportive.  It's appreciative!

Now, I'll get my dookie together, I'll get back in compliance, I didn't need "mama" spanking my hand.  And you are correct Whit, for most vits are not an option.  Luckliy for me, I seem to be getting what I need from food for the most part.  Your labs will be what you grow to depend on year after year, so make sure you stay vigilant on those (I do).

I'm feeling better today, feeling stronger mind and body.

Hope everyone has a great week!
