Hi

I am 2 years post DS. Recently I started choking on my calcium pills. They get so stuck its scary that I have a hard time getting them up. Sure I guess I could cut them in half, but, I was wondering if they make a gummy calcium citrate pill that anyone takes

Thank you
Kathy

I had a hard time with the tablets too but when I switched to the Vitalady capsules I was fine. You can also dissolve those tablets in a little water and add them to your protein shake, yogurt, SF pudding, soup, etc.

Gina.
Can you post exactly what type of calcium citrate you take from vitalady. What is the dosage per capsule? I take about 2000mg per day.

Thank you
Kathy

It's Huneypie here, but here's the info you asked for: "Vitalady Tender Calcium Citrate Only 300mg(elemental) Capsules 240 cap/btl".

On the prepackaged vites she bundles in 2 tablets 3 times a day for a total of 1,800mg.  I take an additional 3 batches of Bone Booster Complex, but I take for tablets per batch for an extra of 2,000mg (I take a lot as I have issues from pre-DS IMO due to the depo shots I had).

You can also switch to the Citrical Petites. They are smaller in size/shape but also a smaller dosage so you'd need to take a few extra  a day (the downside).

I've also switched to the vitalady capsules, much easier to take.

Vitalady and Celebrate Vitamins both have a chewable calcium as well.

My PCP recommended Citracal's gummy calcium citrate.  I looked at the label and was not impressed with the numbers.  He was recommending a slight increase due to the need for citrate to prevent kidney stones.  I have always taken Bariatric Advantage chewables*.  Cannot tolerate the mint and didn't think I'd even want to try the cinnamon, yet the chocolate and cherry are very easy for me.  I also take MCHC  calcium capsules.  They're big yet haven't given me too much trouble so far.  I have osteoporosis so that's why I'm taking the two forms of calcium.

BA's calcium had enough citrate to please my doc and, so far, no new kidney stones.

Hi ran into this on Utube a fello DS'r was told about it from her Dr. because she had a hard time taking her vitimans.  Its made by a barratric dr. and its called New life suppliments.  The vitimans come in pill form, and powder form, taken simply like this if your RNY, or gastric sleeve you use two scoops a day.  If your DS you use three scoops a day.  The powder comes in different flavors.  and you can add it to juice, or water, or whatever.  I figured the container of powder for a DS patient would last around three weeks.  they sell for 28.00.  I beleive the pills you take 4 times a day.  Im going to do the powder at three times a day.  As you can see it is very reasonable price wise, and the Dr. that made it has a vidio on the website, that talks about how a lot of barratric patients have a rough time taking their vitimans because of the expence.  and that people that take his can do so more consistantly because of the price.  He made them affordable.  He also has a graph showing his compared to other barratric vitamins and his win hands down.  I will be having my DS next month, and I will be trying these.  check out the website...its very interesting
