Dr. Stewart spoke with BSBSNC today!

So, my surgeon talked to the medical director for my insurance company and explained to him that I was never a good candidate for the band due to my weight. Then explained how they had already approved me for surgery and I was switching surgeons and asked him how they can deny me after approving me. The medical director had no idea they had approved me. He asked for the letter to be faxed to him. Dr. Stewart gave him the approval number by phone and the medical director looked it up and said that the approval had been rescinded. Which was a lie.  

I had it cancelled when I decided to switch surgeons because the insurance company ASKED ME TO CANCEL IT FIRST. I called and talked to the insurance company about it and asked them out right if I switch is there a chance that I can be denied and they said no, if you were already approved why would you be denied. Then they called Dr. Stewart and told him to call me that they cannot approve with him until I cancel out my approved surgery with Dr. Barker. They asked me to call Dr. Barker. So I called Dr. Barker and asked them to call and cancel the surgery with my insurance company so I can switch surgeons. They did. They canceled my approval and then denied me with the new surgeon for the same surgery they approved me for. Now this medical director is saying they rescinded it. LIE. I canceled it to re submit to another surgeon.  

Anyway I have to wait for the faxed approval letter to get to the Medical director. I will not know anything until tomorrow. This is ridiculous and dirty.

I'm sorry you are having problems.  I had smooth sailing with BCBSNC but my BMI was over 50.  I have heard of some people having problems with them if their BMI was under 50.  But I've not heard of anyone having their approval rescinded with BCBSNC.  I hope this works out for you very soon.

My BMI is 56 and I have co-morbidities. They are trying to say that I should be able to use my Lap Band and do not need the DS. Dr. Stewart told them today that I was never a good candidate for the Lap BAND. 

They lied. They never rescinded me. They asked me to have Dr. Barker call in and cancel the first surgery they approved. They said they could not switch surgeons for me if I did not cancel the previous surgery. So I canceled it, then reapplied with Dr. Stewart per their instructions then they denied me. Dirty.

I pray they do the right thing by me tomorrow. I pay almost 500 dollars a month for this insurance.
