Dr. Marema?
I am considering DS surgery and ran across Dr. Marema's name and site. On some site, he's listed as a DS surgeon. On others, not. I apologize if this has been asked in the past, but the search feature isn't helping.
Obviously, I'm looking for a well qualified surgeon and would like to know what my options are. Having a hx of some liver disease, I want to get this right the first time, so any information is appreciated.
I've never heard of Dr. Marema as a DS surgeon, but she may be new --- or she may be trying to lure patients in only to talk them into the ERNY or VSG instead, saying "if this doesn't work for you, we can talk DS next year". We call these "bait and don't switch docs".
If he's just new at it, awesome. We need more! The DS is very complicated, though, so you'll be taking a leap of faith in his lessor experience. Someone has to though. If you want to see a list of DS surgeons with already proven reputations for being the best, go to DSFacts.com

I checked out where Dr. Marema operates and he lists his specialty as gastric banding.
He does also bypass and has had it himself.
I would not go to him. For someone in Northern FL. the closest you would get to a great surgeon is Dennis Smith in Marietta Georgia.
DS 2009
Dr. Marema has a very good reputation for the RNY. When I started researching weight loss surgery back in 1998... he was well regarded then. He had surgery himself, which some people like.
I've never heard of him as doing DS. Might just be a typo on his profile.
Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin. I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby. 5 years out from revision to VSG. Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(
