Hi All
My name is Graham I'm from the UK, I started my journey back in 2010 and after jumping through hoops and being lost in the system I finally restarted with a new staff at my local Obesity Center I was 717lb at a rough guestimation however we think it was more (the scales struggled to keep up) this was now May 2012 and I had met with my new surgeon he gave me a date and told me I had to lose as much weight as possible before the op or he would refuse me on the day, I was to have a sleeve ( to get my weight down for a secondary op) and an apronectomy at the same time, my op date was July 3rd 2012 and on the day I got down to 643lbs. The op went ahead and 8 months down the line and a lot of YT videos, I decided the DS is what I want for my revision surgery, I seen the surgeon yesterday and he wants me to see him in 6 months so he can give me a date, he wants either December or January and said its definitely a go for then. I will be posting trying to suck as much info out of you guys as possible so I know what's good for me to eat, I have a friend who has had the DS and she has helped me with what protein, fat etc etc ill be needing , but too much info is a good thing right :) hope to get to know you guys as we go along.
P.S I'm now 455lbs and fading
Welcome aboard and good luck. :) Huneypie is here and from the UK. She is a 2 part DSr as well. I think she went to Belgium for her DS.

Hi Graham, yep fellow UK 2 stepper here!! :-D You sound like you've done great so far!! Be prepared to pay for vitamins post DS though. The NHS only prescribes calcium carbonate and that's no good for us (we need calcium citrate or calcium hydroxyapatie - I take both). I get my vitamins from vitalady.com It took about 4 weeks to get my first batch through, but if you can keep your order to below $215 it'll be faster as they won't get stuck in customs (my last order only took 2 weeks) or have extra to customs (just VAT).
You won't get things like B12 injections until you're actually deficient (they don't seem to believe in prevention - this isn't my doc's fault - it's the rules they're bound by). They'll also want to keep your B12 at 7-800 and for us 1,500-2,000pg/ml are good numbers (we need to be at the high end of the healthy range - most GP's tell you you're fine even if you're right at the bottom so you need to check for yourself).
I'd recommend going with 30 day pre-packaged chewables and then 90 day pre-packaged vites (even though you're stomach's already done they'll most likely want you to be on liquid/soft foods for a bit while your intestines heal). Despite all this I'm likely to get vitamin D injections and iron infusions, so while these sound like a lot of vitamins it's what we need to be healthy and successful.
