Before my ds surgery I had high blood pressure that was under control with the help of medication. I went to check my BP today and it was high even though I am still on the same medication and the same dose. My question is do DSER malabsorp BP meds? if so, do I need to adjust the dosage? increase ? or what? Thanks guys

You may need to ask your doctor about adjusting your dosage upward.

Most of my meds had to be adjusted to compensate for malabsorption, and I take a slew of them for lupus and fibromyalgia!

Thankfully my hypertension abated after my surgery. In fact it went from hyper tension to hypotension.

Hypotension is bad too it's abnormally low blood pressure,  so vision changes, disorientation, etc... It seems to be adjusting back to a normal range lately....

Definitely! I would research the drug you are taking and find out how/where/when it is absorbed. You can find it online or on the package insert.

My dad was hospitalized with autoimmune hemalytic anemia at 3 years out. He was 24 hours away from dying. Once hospitalized, the hematologist put him on 60 mg of prednisone, the "normal dosage." Nothing. He told the hema that he absorbed about half of what he ate, so they doubled the dosage. It saved his life.

The pharmacists always questioned his Rx and it wasnt easy weaning off such a high dose, but he is alive today because of it.

Though I never had HB, it appears reasonable that Rx's change, regardless of whether one has had a malabsorption surgery or not. Get it checked out by your doctor. Good luck!

Make sure the doctor you check with is well versed on DS malabsorption....that would mean your surgeon, not your PCP.  Most PCPs will not listen to their patients, and are guilty of having the "God" complex many doctors suffer from.  I hope you have one who will listen to you, and not place your life in jeopardy.

Not trying to scare you, but this stuff is serious business for we DSer's!

The most obvious change in meds post-DS would be to switch from anything that is extended release.  Can't do those anymore.

But the DS works well to abate many comorbidities, if not immediately then certainly as the weight comes off.

It's a good question, though.  I hadn't thought about BP meds and malabsorption.
