Atkins

I have been reading over the Atkins diet and my goal is to get my carbs down to try to get to goal. I see a lot of what they want is for us to eat veggies, and I think we should be focused on protein and fats.  I did my carb count today and seen it was pretty high, so I am going to track tomorrow and see how I do.  I think phase 2 is where I would start and my goal is around 50-75 carbs in a day and see if that helps. Any suggestions are welcome and I am tracking on bites and vites which has been great.

Nov. 14/2005 I have reached the 10 year mark and I am very glad I had this surgery and can live a normal life.

I'm doing the Atkins plan as well. My goal is similar to yours. The frozen meals and bars have made it pretty easy to eat on the go.  I still haven't figured out how to add in more veggies and get the protein in. I guess that's what are vitamins are for right?

When did you have surgery and how long have you been working on Atkins?

I had my surgery in May of last year and I've been doing the Atkins for about 2 months now.

During my weight loss I probably ate some kind of vegetable once a month.  And that was a "protein salad" which was a few pieces of lettuce covered in ham, bacon, egg, cheese, etc...

I never did "Atkins" but we all do a similar diet because we do very low carb, very high protein and moderate to high fat.

I have found the Atkins frozen meals to be a real help in maintaining my loss.  I wish they had had them when I was loosing.

I can't find frozen meals in Saskatchewan Canada. I am waiting to see if they come to Walmart, but so far they have not.

I am going to stick to the protein salad idea you shared, I had chef salad for supper and I ate all the meat and cheese and eggs.

If you really want to "do" Atkins, check out Atkins diet geek or bowolf on YouTube. He really shows folks how to do Atkins right and delicious.

The idea of Atkins is to get yourself into ketosis.  Force your body to burn it's own fat.  Maybe there are people who can do it on 75gr of carbs per day but that's sure not me.  To get into ketosis I have to go down to between 10 and 20 per day.

Forget all the veggies unless you have your protein in and done for the day.

i second what PattyL said.

When I was a pre-op, I was always told that the DS dietary style is similar to Atkins.  High protein, low carb.

I've never followed the "real" Atkins plan, but instead, "protein & fat, first,  fluids next, complex carbs next, simple carbs last."

In other words, treat fruits and veggies as "garnishes", not part of the main meal.  Eat  a few if you have room.

Actually, I eat using a modified "grazing" technique.  Each meal component is separated by 20-30 minutes, with meat, the most dense food, going first.  It's almost like eating all the time, at least it seems that way to me!
