Question about Vits

I just got all my vits yesterday. I was wondering, how on earth do I get all these vits in right after surgery? Do i blend them into a protein shake? Crush them? This is a bunch of vits! lol Just trying to prepare myself.

Like everything else you start out slowly.  At first your only goal will to remain hydrated. If you can do that start getting some protein.  Start the vites off slowly and build up day by day.

You can't understand pre-op how hard it is just to stay hydrated post op.  Sipping fluids becomes a full time job.

It gets easier and vites are a non-issue for me now but I remember the first few weeks.  It was way worth it but it was rough.

I started mine @ 5 days post.  Staying hydrated is more important than vites.  You may have to take one at a time and spread them out a bit but it's doable.  Remember nothing was done to your esophagus at all.  But your new small stomach will still be swollen.

You can dump the capsules' contents into your shakes or water and that's a great way to do it. I wouldn't dump a multi or the B-complex or the iron but the ones like D3, A, K, E, calcium and magnesium citrate should be fine in a shake and not affect the taste. Don't start the iron until you get the hang of all the others. When you start the iron, start with only 1 capsule the first week, annd a second capsule the nex week and so on.

Just take one at a time.  I was taking one every hour, and as the swelling subsided, I could take two at a time, then three, then I started spacing them strategically with what goes well togethere, etc.

Vitalady does a mostly chewable package fot DSers. I still take some the sublingual vites now as they're very absorbable, ie sublinguals get into your bloodstream via your tongue and you have *DON'T* mess with you rerouted innards.

*Edited coz I can't type properly when on a phone!!

My surgeon (Dr. Rabkin) didn't require me to start mine until about 3 weeks post-op.  Just as others have stated, start slowly.  Capsules are easier to swallow than caplets or tablets.

I started with the VSG and just had the DS, but I was told to crush my meds and substitute chewables where available for at least the first month.  Sucks because most of them taste nasty, but you gotta do what you gotta do.  You can blend them, but I'd suggest crushing them before adding them to the blender.  Or try eating with applesauce or pudding or something you enjoy.   Centrum makes chewable multis, and there's chewable calcium citrate, and stuff like B-12 and Vit D come in sublingual form.
