Hi there...
I just got home about an hour ago. 8 days in - whoah! My tablet all of the sudden would not allow me to post on this board. I could read it, just not respond or create a new post. Very strange.
I am much better. The Dr. left me on IV antibiotics until the last minute today and converted me to pill form. I have 7 more days of them to take. The nausea is so so. One thing this oncall GI Dr explained to me, I clearly am not dehydrated (hence fluids all this time). I get nauseated and sometimes, it doesn't stay with me hence no apparent reason at all. She said the "nausea" trigger is very complicated. Lots of Dr's will give excuses for it when there is not one answer for everybody. Being as I am one who "NEVER" had nausea prior to my surgery. The change to my system is what is affecting me.
We had to talk about lots of options because of my diverticulitis attack. I had this before surgery on multiple occasions. The surgeon assured me it would get better after this surgery. Nope, the 2 are independent of each other.
When I went into the hospital, my labs were ok (except showing the infection), my albumin was at 4 and my prealbumin was at 16 (which is where it was last month when I had labs drawn), I requested they do them the day I went in, then they did them again yesterday. my prealbumin was at 9 and my albumin was at 3.4. My protein on the day of arrival was at 7.1, my protein yesterday had dropped to 5.6. So, I have a lot of work to do. I am going to speak about this in another post.
My word of advice to you be ready to fight for your needs. I was amazed at how I had to fight at the beginning to make them realize "I HAD TO HAVE PROTEIN SUPPLEMENTS". The Dietician finally got it, then she put up a sign in front of the tray people to give me Beneprotein. I would have to call 1/2 the time because it wouldn't be on my tray.
I did not do any yogurt with protein for a 24 hr period to see if it would help heal my colon. It did help stopping it for 24 hrs to give my colon a rest. I was using the Beneprotein (which is what the hospital had) plus the Oikos Yogurt (which is what they had).
So, I've already had one protein shake, am getting another one in before bedtime. I must say, it was so great to take a shower after, the longest shower of my life probably!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you broke out of there and are home now!!!!
