Thinking of revison to DS from RnY

Im thinking of a revision to DS from a RnY that was done 14 yrs ago. I lost over 200 lbs but over time have put it back on.  Anyone out there have this revision done and be successful at weight loss?  I know loss is slower but can goal weight be achieved?  Im a self pay patient, so is the outcome worth the money and risk?  I'd like to loose the 200 lbs i have gained back.

I hope you get some feedback here. I'm researching this option as well.  I go see my surgeon on Friday so I'd like to know as much as possible beforehand.  I know she does not do this revision, so we will see what she says.

Good Luck to you.

If she doesn't DO this revision, how likely is she to recommend it? How likely is she to be fully informed about it? You owe it to yourself to consult with a surgeon who can actually do the procedure.

Hi,

I appreciate your info, but finding a doc who is qualified to do a DS after RNY, after stomaphyx, after major hernia surgery (15" ab screen) is not easy near the little state of Delaware.  I'm having more issues than just weight gain, and am seeing my doc for a follow up to a CT Scan.  I want her to do an EGD as well.  Then we will see.

Thanks

There's Dr. Roslin in NY, and Dr. Greenbaum in NJ---not too far from Delaware.

Thanks let me know what you find out. I'd love to hear from others out there that have done it!

Revision on 12/10/12

Hi,

I had correctional/revision  surgery 12/10 from RNY to DS.  The amazing Dr. Ara Keshishian in CA was my surgeon and I traveled from Nor Cal to So Cal for the procedure. The day of surgery I weighed 240 and today I weigh 190. I have however been 190 for a week almost 2. I too had RNY surgery 10 years ago and seem to remember this happening then as well. I am not to worried if it slows down it slows down. At least I am going in the right direction...no matter the speed.

This surgery is nothing to take lightly. I was in the hospital 3 weeks. While in the hospital I developed a leak and had a second surgery. Recovery has been slow. I was NPO for 8 weeks and only 2 weeks ago started drinking protein shakes and water by mouth. I still have the Feeding Tube and probably will for another couple of weeks as a precaution.

I go back to work 3/18 which means I will have been out 14 weeks.

One word of caution when you ask most Bariatric surgeons they will say they do revisions however you need to be specific as to the procedure you want. They will say yes and push the RNY to RNY. I wasted 4 months due to misinformation.

Good luck.

Best

Whit

Thanks and best wishes. I have gained all my weight back. I'd love to weigh 190. Keep us updated. I'm hoping to have an appointment  soon.

Check on DSFacts.com for revision surgeons.  There is only a handful that will take down your RNY and give you a full DS.  Dr Rabkin in SF, Dr K in So Calif, Dr Stewart in Texas and a few on the east coast.  Be careful, most will try to give you a ERNY and not the DS.
