The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, the Obesity Action Coalition, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, The Obesity Society and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, sent letters dated 12/24/12 and 1/4/13, to Secretary Kathleen Sebelius of DHHS, and to Director John Berry of OPM, urging the Administration to protect patient access to medically necessary obesity prevention and treatment services, and to define management of obesity and metabolic disorders as part of “chronic disease management” within Item #9 Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management. (Section §156.110 EHB-benchmark plan standards, page 95)

Petition is here: ENSURE THAT THE PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT INSURANCE EXCHANGES COVER BARIATRIC SURGERY.

Yes, we've had our surgery but many more are behind us hoping for the same access we've enjoyed to this tool.

Please sign the petition and forward it to as many as you can.
