Revisons revisions revisons - which should I do???
Hi I'm in central Ohio and am 10 years RNY post op. I lost 120 lbs but gained all but a few of it back. i'm thinking of a revision but am in the beginning stages of learning about them all. I'd just like to hear any and all thoughts anyone would be willing to give me. I had Dr. Needleman for my RNY and am thinking of going to Riverside this time. thoughts there? thoughts on various procedures. thoughts on eating my way thru another wls? I didn't have much therapy under my belt prior to my last wls but i've been in therapy ever since. any thoughts at all.
thanks very very much!
Good - you're working through the eating issues already. I've seen some who never addressed them who did lose a significant amount of weight, but never made it to their goal and are starting to regain. What's interesting is that the regains I'm seeing aren't that much (like 15-30 lbs), however when you never made it to goal, it might as well be 70lbs to anyone else.
Unfortunately, there are no revision DS surgeons in Ohio. Even the true DS surgeons will do an ERNY instead. I think Dr. Inman in Indianapolis will do a revision, otherwise, you're looking to the East coast.

We have quite a few folks here who have been revised from the RNY to the DS, but that requires a VERY skilled surgeon. You will most likely have to travel in order to get this particular revision done. Most folks think it's worth whatever effort it takes, since the DS has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats, period.

Hey Bunhkinhead
I am on the same road you are on. Had my RNY 7 years ago and gained all back but a few and now I'm going to meet with my DS revision surgeon (Dr. Rabkin) on Wednesday. 2/27/13. I have food issues also and am working on dealing with them because I don't want to end up in the same spot I am in right now, although I am hearing that the DS'ers gain is usually 10-15 pound gains vs our 60-100 gains.
I hope you find the right surgeon for you and that your insurance will pay for it. I have to self pay.A
There is only one revision I would even consider but you can't get it at Riverside, wherever that is. Go to www.DSFacts.com and start learning about the surgery with the best long term outcomes.
Only a few surgeons in the world can do this complex surgery so you will likely have to travel.
Do NOT let someone give you a ERNY (chaning your intestines but leaving your pouch) BAD BAD BAD. THe worst of all worlds.

I have a virgin D.S. 20 months ago. Made it to goal in 8 months, maintaining easily with the D.S. high protein foods, low carb, like the Atkins diet. I wouldn't be able to hover( 4 lb gain/loss) around my goal weight for the past year if I didn't have the D.S. No regrets. Ohio is close to Mi. I highly suggest looking into Dr. Kemmeter. He has done 2 surgeries for me-my D.S and gallbladder. It is good to be able to get to your follow up visits, and have a Dr. on hand to help at any time. I could have gone any where in the country, but chose to go 2 hrs for Dr. Kemmeter. So glad I did. It was a super experience, with excellent care.

hi! in the same situation here. 12 yrs out from RNY, hav rgained all but 50pds. many helath issues. jsut starting th process of having labs done to see what if any i am difienct in. from there i am looking at having an endoscopy to check for other possible problems. I too am thinking of revision and leaning more toward the DS. it is hard as there is not on close to me and i would have no support to go to anothr state. anyway, just wanted to jump in and let you know you are not alone! good luck.
