Oh dear, I hope your sensitivity resolves.  My PCP told me that I could no longer take NSAIDs and I explained that I could.  It's good for us to understand why RNYers can't take them so we can explain to medical folk.  Kenneth C (about half way down) explains it quite nicely here http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/4020919/Why-cant-RNYer s-take-NSAIDS/

Thank you for the info! Will def bookmark for future reference. He explains it nicely, to the point and easy to understand.
I think our docs just want to be extra careful and cover all their bases which is understood, of course. I am hoping the weight loss will help my joints enough that I wont need to take an anti inflammatory....but some days...ummm girl...my joints are screaming for some motrin at least! ...sigh....

*Everyone*  who has major surgery is told to stop taking NSAIDS before surgery, and to abstain for a time after, not just people who get the DS!

This is not the case for RNY's. who cannot take NSAIDS post-op.  In fact, the ability to take NSAIDS is one of the things that many have mentioned on this board as a determining factor in choosing the DS.

I can take NSAIDS now, but I couldn't for two weeks prior to surgery, and for eight weeks after.

NSAIDS tend to inhibit blood clotting, just like aspirin, and that is why surgeons advise against them.

My surgeon recommended stopping NSAIDS prior to surgery due to the increased chance for bleeding.

They interfere with blood clotting, just like aspirin does.

Thanks to everyone for their input.  After much procrastination I've ordered a necklace.  Apparently they call you (at least medicalert.org.uk do) to check the info you've put in the medical conditions section.  It'll take a month to come through.

I went for a long necklace that I can wear under a top - don't want to advertise to the universe, but I want the hospital to find it.  IMO the DS is more pertinent for longer term hospital stays and not so much for the paramedics who may assist at a roadside emergency.
