rklc2002's thread re 'carry a medical document with you!!!' got me thinking about getting a medicalert.

What text would you put on there? Duodenal switch is obviously a good start.  TIA

My medical bracelet says:

NAME
SPOUCE'S PHONE # or MYROADID PHONE #
GO TO: MYROADID.COM
SERIAL #
PIN #

Myroadid.com stores all your information online. So medical personal can either call with your pin & serial # or they can just log onto it on the computer. It has all my doctors, med history, vits, and also explains my DS, and common things that might occur.

I think it is 50 or 30 dollars a year. That's what I use :)

Many thanks Danni - I think I'll go for the subscription option too.

Depends on what your medical conditions/allergies are.
I still have mine from almost 2 decades ago...I don't bother updating the necklace itself (I prefer a necklace to a bracelet). But I DO update my file.

Mine reads:
Diabetes
Allergic to codeine, sulfa, bee stings,

No real room for anything else. My DS is on the file associated with the number on the back.

I use MedicAlert because of the support behind it.

Thanks Liz - I can't think of much other than putting the duodenal switch for me, but I just didn't want to miss anything important.

I think it's a great idea Huneypie.  I've been contemplating the bracelet myself after hearing some of the stories from others who have had to go to an emergency room.

Mine says:

DUODENAL SWITCH

NO NG TUBE W/0 SCOPE

NO NSAIDS/ASA

DR# (your docs phone #)

I was told during orientation to wear a bracelet with this info just in case there was an emergency and they had to place an NG tube. They need to know your stomach is smaller than the average human to decrease chance of injury. Hope that helps.

April-

Just curious, why no NSAIDS/ASA ?  Are you allergic?

I have a DS and I handle NSAIDS just fine.

Good morning!  After surgery I had to go off my RA anti inflammatory because I developed a sensitivity to NSAIDs.  I'm hoping as things calm down and my body adjusts to the new normal I can reintroduce in small amounts slowly. Cuz I tell ya, nothing works better on a headache or toothache than good old motrin! We were also told during orientation no to take them. I'm thinking they might have been talking to RNYers since I have been reading here about DSers taking them and doing just fine. Either way, I can't tolerate them for the time being.
