Going under a BMI of 35?

I have been reading the boards and have found the answers to most of my questions.  However, something I can't find.  If I start out with a BMI of 35.2 and do the six month supervises diet, what happens  if my BMI drops below 35?  Will I be refused the surgery?

All the programs I am familiar with use your beginning BMI.  Ask your doc to make sure that's how they do it.  And remember to slouch and wear no shoes when you are measured!

Try not to lose below 35BMI show that you're trying to stick to the dietitian's diet but you can't afford to lose too much.

There ARE stories that some insurance company plans have refused surgery if you are under a 35 BMI on the day of surgery...so do your best not to drop.

Ask for details from your insurance plan considering just how close to the cutoff you are.

My surgeon only had me do the "no eating/drinking" in the 12 hours before surgery cause my BMI was also a 35.2 and even a couple of lbs would have put me under that magic line.

Thankfully Medicare Advantage covers from the day you sign in to the surgeon's NOT the day of surgery cause I slipped below the 35 mark on the day of surgery...was a 34.9. (At least they did in 2011). And I was NOT trying to lose.

One of the consults I had with a bariatric clinic, told me I needed a bmi of 40 (I had no comorbids) on the morning of surgery to qualify for the surgery. I cant tell you if that was an internal policy or an insurance requirement.

With no co-morbids, 40 IS the standard...

Between 35 & 40, you have to have to have co-morbids.

I just made sure that i never dropped to much that i could not gain it back the next time i saw her.
