A normie should get about 30 grams a day. Some DSrs can eat 150 grams a day. I think my usual is somewhere around 70 or so. It's definitely a YMMV thing.

It may be the kind of fat you're eating that makes a difference, too.  Greasy stuff has a much different reaction to something like the fat from cheese or something like that.  You learn about your body over time, but even today more than 7 years later, I'm occasionally caught by surprise

While being hospitalized for a swollen colon resulting from diarrhea (from too much fat I found out) I asked the Dr this same question....he advised fried foods were the worst, try to buy fat free. If I was not getting rnough I would crave it and then try cheese, whole milk, etc... first. He also put me on welchol and I now have almost normal stools. If I slip up and eat something where the meat was not drained well...I will pay within a few hours. You will just have to learn your balance and be sure to eat fruits and veggies...they help with those issues as well.

I see you just had your surgery three months ago. How much fat you have vs someone who is one or seven years out will differ greatly. When you look at people's responses, look at their surgery dates, because the "correct" answer will vary widely based on your surgery date.

A lot of people will "push" fat because we dont absorb it. True. But the farther out from surgery you are, the better you are able to tolerate it (and I'm talking about the effects on your bowels- you will malabsorb it regardless of your surgery date).

At three months out, the amounts and types of fat that you consume will throw your bowels into a frenzy. I never added it to anything. I ate cheese, yogurt, which had fat and protein combined. I never ate fried foods, bread or popcorn with oodles of butter. I tried, but it was not good for my bowels!

It will take a while for your bowels to settle, and I think that is what your question really refers to. At 3 months I ate alot of beef tenderloin (buy a whole loin at Sams Club), the dark meat of the rotisserie chicken, turkey lunch meat, cheese, yogurt, Premier protein bars. I didnt have room for carbs and fat.

At 9 months I was able to start eating white meat and would eat a little skin with each bite to help it go down. At almost a year and a half, I dont worry or think about the fat content.

How much Calcium are you getting?  The amount of Calcium I take allows me to get all the fat I want and then some.  Of course that wasn't true early out.  Early out I could get too much fat, but I wasn't getting this much Calcium either.  For me it is a balance between Calcium, Fa****er and Carbs.  If I get a little constipated I take Magnesium Oxide (tabs) and that fixes me right up until I can get more water and fat in.

I take 6-7 full doses of Calcium a day with Magnesium Citrate, Potassium and Vitamin D (3 doses a day).

You just have to work at it until you find the right balance.

I've never counted fat grams. Over time, I've learned to listen to my body. The 'ideal' amount of fat for me means I'm neither constipated or having the runs. If either happens, for the next few days I adjust my fat intake accordingly. I'm more often constipated than having the runs, and my ideal 'fix' for this is ranch sour cream dip eaten on raw cauliflower---lots of fat and roughage!
