In the hospital

I have dealt with Diverticulitis pre surgery for several years. When I started having the pain on Tuesday, it was not like pre surgery. Has anyone else experienced this post op?
To be quite frank, one part of my colon was close to rupturing , I have 2 antibiotics via IV ... protonix ...I will be in here until
I am having only liquids. The GI Dr really didnt want me having yogurt but its the only thing they have to mix the protein with. They have Beneprotein. Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Oh,no. I'm sorry. Sounds like you're doing the best you can with the yogurt and protein. Will they let you have your own protein shakes?

I am so sorry you are going through this, but glad you are getting help and taking good care of you. I have no advice on protein, except to find out how many carbs it has. You don't want the misery of too many carbs on top of what you are dealing with.
Get better soon!

I am glad I called my Drs NP. She and he both listen to me..
I put the beneprotein in my broth tonight. The dietician gets part of it but not all of it. Sigh
Pre DS I had a perforated colon due to diverticulitis and had to have most of my sigmoid colon removed. I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics for 1 week trying to get my infection under control enough to have the resection done without having a colostomy bag. I didn't want to have a colostomy. I ended up having absesses on my colon about 3 weeks after the IV antibiotics were stopped even though I was on heavy oral antibiotics. Then I had to have those drained and ended up in surgery a few days later for the resection.
I didn't get any food or water in the entire time I was in the hospital. I only was able to get IV bags and the little sponge lollipops to wet my mouth.
It will be a rough road if you have to have a resection, there's no way around that. But since you have not ruptured at this point then you probably aren't filled with infection and may be able to get by without a colostomy. Luckily I was only in the hospital a total of 3 weeks including my surgery.
I will be praying for you!! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you since I've been there.
I don't have any advice about protein. Although if someone can buy you the premixed Costco Premier protein, it is great and doesn't need refrigeration.
I am glad you are getting this treated. I had this pre DS and an untreated rupture nearly killed me after it caused my liver to abscess. It is not to be taken lightly. It seems my diverticulitis has improved after the DS.
