Hi Gina,

Now this is one of those questions that may be dumb, but need to ask.  Now I love me some Popeyes chicken. I don't eat the bread, nor red beans and rice.  Do you still count  your calories, because this is a lot of caloaries?  Looking at the carbohydrate its only 21 grams.  How many carbohydrate do you get in per day when you are cutting back or on  regular maintenance day.  Popeyes is a greasy food, not really healthy, but having the ds we  really  do not absorb all that grease right? Stupid question, but I love some popeyes....other bad foods, I do not have to have, but please kick the truth about this habit?

This is a serving of 3 thighs,which I love.

I never count calories, only carbs. If I keep my carbs below 50 net grams a day, I usually lose weight.

I think the amount of fat we malabsorb is varied and the 80% number is a rule of thumb with a strong YMMV caveat. It also might be changing over time. As we get further out, we may not be malabsorbing as much as we did the first year or so post-op.

I think Popeye's within reason is fine, especially if you peel most of the breading off.  I probably wouldn't eat it 3 meals a day for weeks on end but once or twice a week is likely no issue for most DSrs.

Thanks Gina! Now my eating habits are extremely far from perfect, but I noticed the older I get out from my surgery date the better my eating habits...I would say at least 40% better than what they use to be before the surgery.  For instance, I never use to like fishy fish like salmon, but do you know swee****er salmon salad is my favorite it is soooooooooooooo delicious my body just eat it up.  I can't say I likes anyone elses salmon because I haven't tried.  I use to love chips, but now I do not have a taste for them, neither tortilla because I notice it puts weight on me.  I use to love the cookies with the filling in the middle...well not so much, they are still good, but eating all that carb causes my poo to smell stronger so it deter me away from them.  When it comes to pizza, not so much, I use to eat a $5 dollar pizza, in a couple of days...now the idea doesn't appeal to me...haven't done it in awhile....bad habits but they are getting better, trust.

Currently I am on a getting back on track, I messed up and cooked spaghetti from one week to another.  Now that was bad, bad of me....I must have fell and  bumped my head....

I cut back basically for 2 days, and now I'm back on track, but I noticed I am too close in going to another  set of numbers.  The set that is too close to being overweight.  So I would like to lose 12 - 15 pounds.  The key for me is cutting back my carbs and I should be able to accomplish that goal. It hasn't been easy but I am going to try.   I probably would have been smaller this morning if I didn't eat the popcorn last night.

PS, Gina if I keep my carbs down to 50 grams a day, taking into consideration it varies from each person, how long will it take to drop 15 pounds?

And Oh the skin on popeyes is the best, that is what I really love.....I just do not eat the biscuits.

Keeping it Real with the eating,

Sunshine

I love Popeye's too. lol  You can do this. I've seen folks drop about 15 pounds in less than 2 months when they keep below 50 net grams of carbs a day. Hang in there.

Ok you are new and have a lot to learn.  Lucky you found this place because the folks are great and will lead you down the RIGHT path for the DS.

Calories are meaningless.  You need to count protein and carbs (if you want) and get your vites (VitaLady has the plan I use and tweak per my labs) and get LOADS of water.

I eat fried chicken no problem.

Thanks Becky, I do keep track of lab work and order from Vitalady all the time.  You guys seem to eat so healthy on here, I tend to forget. Not every Popeye's chicken restaurant, but I found one that only make the best, and fresh.  Its wonderful seating in front of my TV, with a big box of fresh popeye's, its like foreplay to me. I'm so looking forward to it on Sunday, if I don't mess up before hand.  I need to lose 12-15 pounds.  I guess If I'm cautious of my eating I should be fine and lose it by April.  Hopefully sooner.

If you will eat a lot of protein and fat (and that is what is in that chicken) and stay far away from other carbs (I guess there are some carbs in the breading) you will do great.

I eat fast food ... just not the bread.

Got my vitamin A re-drawn today and zinc results are enroute so I'm hoping to have my labs in a week or so - I started arguing with my PCP about this in December and it's taken to now to get things sorted!!  The vets are right when then talk about self advocating!! ;-)

I see you had peanuts - I'm cutting back on them a little as I'm scared of kidney stones (hence I'm doubly happy to get in all my vitamin Ks).
